Job Description

Good health means more than just treating people when they are sick. Issues such as poverty, addiction and family violence have a significant impact on peoples’ health and wellness. At Sandy Hill Community Health Centre (SHCHC), we treat illness when it arises as well as use health promotion strategies to prevent it. We also work hard to create a healthy community, so people stay well and get the most out of life. From our origins of bringing care and community together in 1973, we have become a thriving health centre that has a diverse client base, offering a full range of community, health and social services delivered by a diverse team of professionals. Our team includes doctors, nurses, nurse practitioners, social workers, mental health professionals, dietitians, community developers, health promoters, and harm reduction workers.

As a multi-service, not-for-profit agency focusing on integrity, respect, equity, collaboration and empathy, Sandy Hill CHC is deeply connected to the communities we serve. We pay particular attention to groups facing barriers, with a vision to assure that everyone in our community has an equitable opportunity for health and well-being. This includes people who are isolated seniors; those experiencing mental health challenges; those from ethnocultural, racialized or newcomer communities; those living with low-income; and those who are homeless or precariously housed. We value equity, diversity, empathy and inclusion. We provide service without judgement and support our clients where they are in their lives. Due to the upcoming planned retirement of our incumbent ED, we are seeking a compassionate and dynamic leader to be our next

Executive Director

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will lead a passionate and committed team of professionals to support a vision that everyone in our community will have an equitable opportunity for health and well-being. The ED is responsible for all aspects of the development, delivery and administration of all programs and services offered by the SHCHC and leads a multi-disciplinary team. You are a skilled communicator and relationship builder who is passionate about positioning SHCHC for post-pandemic success and systemic change. You will lead a dedicated and diverse team to offer a variety of health-care services to the Sandy Hill community with a strong sense of social justice and accessibility. You will be a change agent who is comfortable dealing with ambiguity, is calm amid crisis, and maintains open and forthright stakeholder and partner relationships across the system, as well as through oversight of the medical and health care teams.

The ideal candidate will have a background focused on health and social services, along with considerable experience as a collaborative and inspiring leader. As a strong champion for clients and community, you bring a constant client-centred leadership approach to your team, and your experience advocating and interacting with marginalized people is balanced with compassion and big-picture thinking to move programs and relationships forward. The successful candidate will have academic qualifications at a master’s level, together with related leadership experience in both direct client service and management responsibilities. The ability to communicate in English and French is essential. This executive role will appeal to someone who is a courageous, decisive and outcomes-oriented leader.
