Job Description

Large Format Operations

  • Set-up, maintain and operate large/wide format presses for the production of all types of commercial printing.
  • Coordinate with various departments including prepress and shipping to maintain the production workflow and meet job deadlines.
  • Inspect all printed and cut products, ensuring quality standards are maintained and comply with clients’ and company’s specifications as noted on the work order.
  • Able to work closely and follow instructions from the Large Format Supervisor.
  • Maintain safe working conditions in the large format area with regards to equipment, chemicals and other materials used.
  • Package jobs, complete work orders, tickets, and delivery receipts as necessary and placed in their assigned areas.
  • Record and maintain work/job information onto an activity sheet for tracking purposes.
  • Perform quality controls on the assigned machine/ equipment.
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns, conduct minor repairs, and perform routine maintenance.
  • Control and adjust machine settings when required.

Team Lead/Personnel

  • Maintain a training schedule for Large Format staff members to be cross-train in all aspects of Large Format operations.
  • Monitor and report progress of new Large Format hires and ongoing training with the Large Format department.
  • Coordinate scheduling duties of Large Format staff members.
  • Oversee the production operations, processes, job scheduling, staff training, and procedures aimed at maximizing productivity while minimizing waste and costs.
  • Communicate questions and/or concerns in regards to policies, decisions or instances that may occur to Management/Human Resources.
  • Within the department, support and assist with company communication / decisions inclusive of HR, Operations and Management.
  • Meet the team members daily and talk about daily tasks and priorities.
  • Consult with supervisor/HR to adjust staffing according to production needs.
  • Collaborate with CSRs to answer any questions (if needed discuss with supervisor on daily basis)
  • Inform supervisor for all general maintenance service calls and parts orders.
  • Other duties assigned.

Equipment and Supplies

  • Order and manage inventory levels (for all large format material including inks, and other supplies)
  • Keep all the machines up to date, when necessary make service calls for machinery and order new parts.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and work area following maintenance procedures and update maintenance logs.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of large format print production experience.
  • High school diploma/GED with experience or vocational/technical certification.
  • Previous print and/or Large/Wide format presses knowledge/experience is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of digital cutting machines (Zund and Esko) is an asset.Previous experience in operating machinery is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills e.g. working well with others, communication, positive attitude.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good written, verbal and mathematical skills.
  • Good Attention to detail and hand eye coordination.
  • Able to work independently and as a member of the team.
  • Able to apply written instructions to machine set-up and maintenance.
  • Reliable attendance, punctuality and attention to workstation.
  • Meet or exceed minimum test results as specified by the hiring manager.

Working Conditions:

  • Standing for prolonged periods of time - up to 8 hours or more per day.
  • Frequent lifting of objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, and twisting is required.
  • Work area may have fluorescent lighting and air conditioning.
  • Noise level is usually moderate to loud.
  • Exposure to ink and chemical fumes, and airborne particles such as paper dust and drying powder.
