Reporting to the SVP Credit, the Head of Credit Adjudication is responsible for ensuring that the composition and performance of ATB's loan portfolio is managed and maintained in line with established risk strategies and tolerances. The incumbent is responsible for managing and leading the credit adjudication teams within the Risk Management group of ATB, with overall responsibility for the quality of the personal, business (including small business, commercial, and corporate), and wealth loan portfolios. As a senior leader, this individual is expected to be a role model as it relates to the ATB IDs and Leader DNA, and help further the advancement of ATB on the path to 2030.


Role Accountabilities:

  • Develop, implement and maintain sound credit processes and oversee a team of adjudication staff that supports the growth, profitability, stability and credit quality goals of ATB Financial.
  • Partner with the ATB Areas of Expertise to ensure the loan portfolio operates within approved risk appetite tolerances.
  • Support the development and implementation of the Credit Risk Management Policy and Framework (and associated policies, frameworks, and guidelines) that outline the Board approved set of limits and controls that allows the credit portfolio to operate within approved tolerance levels.
  • Review, decision, recommend and provide oversight of client transactions through exercise of delegated lending authority.
  • Delegate lending authority to all applicable associates and ensure sound credit decisions through independent assessment and effective challenge.
  • Monitor, and support active management of, the nature and composition of the credit portfolio.
  • Support comprehensive reporting on significant credit activities, and the composition and quality of the credit portfolio to both Senior Management and the Board of Directors.
  • Develop, implement and maintain a program for the monitoring of credit risk controls that supports the oversight of portfolio performance and management.
  • Oversee staff development and monitor performance standards while providing coaching, mentoring and training to support the growth of team members and the department.
  • Responsible for direction and oversight of all department operations including acting as a key point of contact for all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support enterprise initiatives through direct participation, or via team, on committees, projects or working groups as required.
  • Provide strategic and tactical leadership and foster a positive work environment, within the credit adjudication team and across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Risk Management or other related field.
  • Continued education / certification (MBA, CFA, CA, etc.) or equivalent level of experience.
  • Credit risk management experience across a broad spectrum of sectors and sizes of exposures.
  • Ability to assess macro and micro developments and trends for the impact on credit risk.
  • Sound knowledge of financial institution policies, controls, technologies, information systems, and regulations.
  • Proven success as a financial institution leader.
  • Ability to liaise and effectively communicate with staff, managers, and other executives.
  • Analytical, results-oriented and innovative mindset.
  • Discretion and good judgement.
