PORTA currently offers a range of frozen pizzas, pasta kits, raviolis, desserts, pastries and risotto. We distribute Direct-to-Consumer in more than 50 cities through a meal subscription at http://www.eatporta.com and are also available in almost 100 specialty and grocery stores. PORTA is a venture-backed food-tech company that is led by a team of experienced entrepreneurs, culinary geniuses, and brand builders.

The Role

Porta is looking for a hands-on and driven HR Generalist to join the team. Reporting to the VP, Operations, you will ensure that PORTA is resourced with people who have both the willingness and ability to operate the business of today and the create the growth of tomorrow.

In this role, you will need to have the ability to take ownership for facility assets, production / process amp; packaging assets amp; give direction / work effectively with contractors, suppliers, amp; landlord. It will have direct reports in future as asset base grows and multiple shifts operate needs to be an effective people leader and possess technical capability with ability to teach.

Requirements

  • Vision, Mission amp; Values: champion for PORTA vision, mission, and values, puts values in action and inspires others to do the same
  • Employee Growth amp; Development: Subject matter expert for development planning, creates effective standards and teaches managers how to implement those standards. Collaborates with managers to create inspiring development plans for all employees.
  • Training: Lead the creation, implementation amp; continuous improvement of operational training that delivery both KPI performance amp; people safety
  • Recruitment: Owns the end-to-end recruitment process ensuring that the selected candidates have the functional and effectiveness competencies for the role
  • Safety: Management representative to Joint Health amp; Safety Committee. Nurtures and promotes the engagement of worker representatives.
  • Policy Deployment: Consistently apply and administer people-oriented policy that protects the organization’s interests. Knowledgeable about the ESA and ensures that PORTA policy and decision is consistent with the ESA. Owns, updates, amp; promotes PORTA Employee Handbook
  • Maintains employee roster and up to date well-organized employee records, including timekeeping records for vacation taken
  • Communicates to payroll all relevant information such as new hires, time off, hours worked, wage rate changes, and employee information updates
  • Review’s and approves weekly timesheets for 3rd party employment agencies
  • Benefits program coordinator
  • Prepares required documentation consistent with past practice and current policy; employment confirmation letters, disciplinary letters, wage increase letters amp; Record of Employment
  • First point of contact for employee questions in the areas of pay amp; time off policies, actively supports PORTA open door policy through words and behaviors
  • Ensures employee training meets requirements of all provincial and federal government mandated programs
  • Other duties as assigned

About You

  • Strong understanding of Employment Standards Act (Ontario) amp; Human Rights Code
  • Organized, critical thinker with excellent communication ability
  • Strong work ethic with meticulous attention to detail and a can do attitude
  • Ability to collaborate with various cross-functional partners (production, customer service teams)
  • Proactive and conscientious able to identify and anticipate compliance gaps and recommend creative and practical solutions
  • Schedule flexibility able to be on call as needed for emergency situations
  • Must thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic company environment

Skills

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent food safety and regulatory affairs strongly preferred
  • Degree in Human Resources or related field
  • CHRP considered an asset but not required
  • Minimum of 2 years in a related Human Resources role, manufacturing environment considered a strong asset
  • Must have 2 years of experience with full cycle recruitment including experience with various hiring channels and methods, candidate review, and pre-screening
