Job Description

Norwood Sawmills, a global leader in mobile sawmill technology, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Product Designer to join their team. The role of the Mechanical Product Designer will be to develop, design, improve, assemble, test, optimize and commercialize the Norwood and Frontier brands. This position will collaborate within the Product Development team to improve product designs and maximize the success of the Norwood and Frontier brands. Responsibilities
  • Design or redesign products that

o effectively respond to, and exceed, customers’ functional and reliability needs,

o possess a high degree of visual design appeal,

o meet European CE-certification requirements,

o minimize fabrication costs, and

o simplify packaging and minimize shipping volume.

  • Understand the needs and requirements for new or redesigned products.
  • Plan and develop models using CAD software SolidWorks.
  • Collect and analyze testing and costing data to identify opportunities to improve design or fabrication costs.
  • Coordinate and contribute to certification and recertification initiatives to ensure equipment compliance with regional requirements.
  • Modify models to improve designs or reduce fabrication costs.
  • Review, organize, and upload documents to the Product Data Management system for team and internal stakeholders to view.
  • Prepare production drawings and send drawings to suppliers.
  • Maintain and update incoming bill of materials to ensure correct project timelines and product price breakdowns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of related experience, an asset.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks Visualize and Composer).
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and compliance in the relevant industry.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, or part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Detailed orientated with strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic functionalities, an asset.
