To limit global warming to 1.5C requires immediate, deep reductions across all sectors and holistic ecosystems restoration and conservation. It is estimated that a total investment in nature of up to US$8.1 trillion by 2050 is required if the world is to meet its climate change and nature targets. Mobilizing and accelerating private finance to restore and protect nature is now mission critical. Yet, climate finance is at an inflection point. While the voluntary carbon market remains the most viable vehicle to fund climate actions at scale, the current market is plagued by widespread, fundamental flaws. The market has been under scrutiny for self-regulation, lack of transparency, over-crediting and lack of ongoing monitoring.

veritree is building the next generation digital platform to accelerate investment in nature-based carbon solutions. veritree’s digital measurement, reporting and verification (dMRV) technology enables the tracking of impacts throughout a project lifecycle to provide end-buyers with the confidence that their investment is making a real impact with positive outcomes. Our goal is to transform the way carbon emission reduction and removals as well as holistic impacts are measured, monitored, forecasted, and verified for nature-based carbon solutions.

veritree is now looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Carbon Portfolio Specialist. The candidate will report directly to the Director, Strategy. The main responsibilities include i) project origination - to drive the design, development, implementation, accreditation, and ongoing monitoring and reporting of nature-based carbon projects with focus on afforestation, reforestation and revegetation and other land use initiatives and ii) carbon credit sourcing - to source and vet qualified offset projects to be included in veritree’s portfolio of carbon projects. The Carbon Portfolio Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that deadlines, milestones, and deliverables are managed across project stakeholders, ensuring that resources are managed efficiently, and that progress is communicated upwards to the leadership team.

This position will be based in Vancouver, Canada and some travelling may be required.

Project Origination

• You will keep abreast with the latest rulings from carbon regulatory bodies (Clean Development Mechanism, Gold Standard, Verra, etc.) and apply this knowledge to the carbon project development process. You will provide a bi-weekly summary of the carbon sector including, but not limited to, carbon pricing, regulatory development, project opportunities, market trends and competitor activities.
• You will establish, manage and maintain relationships with carbon credit standards and certification bodies to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• You will oversee and coordinate the work of project implementing partners and service providers, including project planning, establishing timelines, developing and coordinating field work schedules, managing field logistics, monitoring partner budgets, spendings and procurement processes, acquire permits and ensure training documentation and Standard Operating Procedures.
• You will liaise and collaborate with all project stakeholders to drive the project objectives.
• You will write and amend project related documentations, including project design documents, monitoring report, etc.
• You will collaborate with project stakeholders to develop methodologies and tools for the measurement and reporting of a project’s financial performance, carbon sequestration model and impact performance.

Carbon Credit Sourcing

• You will set up a carbon sourcing scheme and conduct due diligence on nature-based carbon projects to determine if these projects meet veritree’s project evaluation criteria and requirements and document any findings from the due diligence process.
• You will assist in the sourcing of qualified offset projects to be included in veritree’s portfolio of carbon projects and support conversations with project developers and/or suppliers.
• You will support in the development of marketing assets and materials to support veritree’s portfolio of carbon projects.
• You will provide training to internal teams on carbon credit concepts, processes, and best practices.
