Due to continued growth, we are our looking for an Accountant, Asset Management who will be responsible for organizing the full accounting cycle for a portfolio of real estate properties.
Principal Responsibilities
- Ensure all monthly financial and management reporting is delivered accurately and on a timely basis.
- Ensure consolidated records related to all properties are kept up to date.
- Maintain a full understanding of all balance sheet and income statement accounts and prepare a detailed variance analysis of revenue and expenses.
- Maintain schedules reconciling cash, accounts receivable, inter-company balances, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, accrued expenses and liabilities.
- Prepare month end bank reconciliations, journal entries, and support working papers for financial statements.
- Assist in the accounting of property acquisitions and dispositions and participate in the due diligence and statement of adjustment phases, as required.
- Assist with the preparation and review of portfolio reporting and schedules, including cash flow projections, monthly variance analysis reports, and annual budgets.
- Review management fees, leasing fees, chargeback invoices to tenants, HST reconciliations, and tax final billing adjustments.
- Calculation and review of recoveries for commercial properties on additional rents and year-end adjustments.
- Review of the lease terms, providing support to asset management team on renewals and other leasing obligations.
- Assist with external accountant/auditor requirements when required.
- Assist with the preparation of sales tax filings and annual income tax returns and filings.
- Assist with the implementation of new technology and initial set-up as required.
- Continually monitor and review accounting processes and procedures and recommend changes as appropriate to improve internal controls and/or efficiencies.
- Support data standardization and improve reporting templates.
General
- Carry out additional ad hoc duties as required.
Requirements
Knowledgeamp; Experience
- Minimum 2-3 years of accounting experience in industry.
Skills
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Proven self-starter with ability to adapt to evolving scope of responsibilities within a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
- Intermediate to advanced excel skills.
- Working knowledge of Yardi preferred.
Qualifications
- University degree or college diploma in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- Professional Accounting Designation (CPA-CA, CGA, CMA) or actively enrolled in the CPA program.
