Career Counsellor, Come to Work

Contract

Vancouver, BC

CNIB invites you to build a career as unique as you! We are currently searching for a Career Counsellor, Come to Work! Reporting to the Team Lead, Come To Work, the Career Counsellor, Come to Work will provide guidance, information and the tools to blind or partially sighted Come to Work Talent Pool members who are entering into workforce for the first time or changing careers so that they can pursue the careers they choose.

Your impact at CNIB
  • You will meet with Talent Pool members one-on-one to gather information about their education, work history and career goals
  • You will provide guidance, advice, tools, information and resources to Talent Pool members so that they can make an informed decision about their career path.
  • You will implement plans to maximize the success of CNIB programs in your local market including the growth of existing programs working within national and provincial service delivery standards and program curricula.
  • You will collaborate with community groups, businesses, industry and other organizations that offer career planning resources.
  • You will be a key local ambassador for CNIB, representing and promoting the organization at all relevant external events.

Requirements

Who you are:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to plan and deliver clear communications on an individual basis or to a dispersed audience.
  • A track record of successful people skills encompassing establishing, developing and maintaining positive relationships with individuals seeking services and partnerships with organizations.
  • Knowledge and experience working with individuals with people with sight loss and/or disabilities in general.
  • Knowledge of accessibility and other societal issues that create employment barriers for the sight loss community is considered an asset.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Proficient in Salesforce, Microsoft Teams and Zoom is considered an asset.
  • Proven time management, planning, coordinating and organization skills; proactive in initiating multiple projects on an ongoing basis.
  • Effectively demonstrates understanding and championing of diversity, inclusion and accessibility issues
  • Professional attitude, results oriented, strategic and flexible
  • Excellent analytical, problem definition and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
We want to hear from you if you have:
  • A University degree in Psychology or relevant field
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in a social service, non-profit or other relevant sector
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience using sight loss related assistive technology is considered an asset
  • Certified Career Development Practitioner an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.
Work Environment
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
  • Willingness to work in-person at the office and from home
  • Willingness to engage in moderate travel and work from different locations
