Specialist, Communications amp; Community Outreach

Full-Time, Contract

CNIB invites you to build a career as unique as you! We are currently searching for a Specialist, Communications amp; Community Outreach! Reporting to the Executive Lead, Regional Development, the Specialist, Communications and Community Outreach provides regional communications support and connects with community members who are blind, partially sighted or Deafblind. In partnership with the Vice President and the Provincial Directors, the Specialist, Communications and Community Outreach is responsible for developing and implementing communications plans to support program delivery and powerful advocacy to help create a barrier-free society for people with sight loss. The Specialist, Communications and Community Outreach communicates effectively and efficiently with key stakeholders, leverages existing tools and methods, shares best practices, and creates customized communications materials to reach target audiences. With support from the Executive Lead, Regional Development, the Specialist, Communications and Community Outreach ensures all resources are clear, concise, and consistent with the CNIB brand.

Your impact at CNIB
  • Develops marketing and communications plans, including Indigenous outreach strategies for Treaty No. 6, Treaty No. 7 and Métis Nation, in support of the regional operating plan and communicates directly with people who are blind, partially sighted or Deafblind to deliver innovative programs and powerful advocacy.
  • Produces multimedia stories featuring participants, volunteers, donors, and partners in accessible formats for Owned Media (e.g., blogs, eblasts, videos, websites) and Shared Media (e.g., social media).
  • Manages Earned Media, both proactive and reactive opportunities.
  • Flags issues that could impact the organization’s reputation.
  • Ensures stakeholders adhere to organizational brand guidelines.
  • Looks for opportunities to share resources and maximize impact.

Requirements

Who you are:
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with experience writing for a variety of audiences.
  • A strong storyteller with exceptional editing skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multi-faceted projects.
  • Creative with an ability to develop and execute innovative ideas.
  • Strong knowledge of social media engagement platforms and strategies .
  • Professional attitude, results oriented, self-directed, and flexible.
  • Excellent diplomacy, leadership and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency in MS Office.
  • Working knowledge of relevant design, video and audio editing software, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Final Cut Pro.
  • Knowledge of CP Style is an asset.
We want to hear from you if you have:
  • Post-secondary education in communications, marketing or journalism
  • 5-7 years of experience working in communications.
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.
