Job Description
The Montreal bureau of The Canadian Press is seeking an enterprising journalist who wants to make an impact covering the news with speed and accuracy. The successful applicant will come to work armed with original ideas and creative ways to tell stories. We expect the successful candidate will work four days a week, including some weekend work. We are looking for a self-starter who works well in a team setting, takes direction and feedback easily and always hits tight deadlines.
General Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Atlantic/Quebec bureau chief, the successful applicant will:
- Report on a variety of assignments, with a focus on general news but ready to jump into the coverage of other areas when necessary
- Produce original content in English for all CP platforms, including online, print, audio and video
- Generate original story ideas, projects and exclusives, paying special attention to under-reported communities
- Take interesting local and regional stories and make them nationally relevant
- Work creatively and concisely under tight deadline pressure in a digital environment
- Come up with new and creative ways to tell stories on all platforms
Qualifications:
- Experience working in a real-time, digital newsroom
- Solid news judgment and writing and editing skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with CP style
- English-French bilingualism is a must
- Superior research skills and familiarity with social media platforms
- Ability to organize time and workflow effectively
- Audio and video skills are an asset

La service anglaise de La Presse Canadienne à Montréal est à la recherche d’un(e) journaliste dynamique qui souhaite se distinguer en couvrant l’actualité avec rapidité et exactitude. La personne choisie se présentera au travail avec des idées originales et des façons créatives de réaliser des reportages. Nous nous attendons à ce qu’elle travaille quatre jours par semaine, y compris certains week-ends. Nous recherchons quelqu’un de débrouillard qui travaille bien au sein d’une équipe, qui accepte facilement les directives et les commentaires et qui respecte toujours des délais serrés.
Responsabilités générales :
- Relevant du chef de bureau de l’Atlantique/Québec, la personne choisie devra :
- Couvrir diverses affectations particulièrement reliées à l’actualité générale tout en étant disposée à couvrir d’autres secteurs au besoin
- Produire du contenu original en anglais pour toutes les plateformes de la PC, y compris l’écrit, l’audio, la vidéo et le service en ligne
- Trouver des idées originales de reportage, des projets et des exclusivités, en accordant une attention particulière aux communautés sous-représentées
- Reprendre des nouvelles locales et régionales à l’intention d’un public national
- Travailler de façon créative et concise sous la pression de délais serrés dans un environnement numérique
- Proposer de nouvelles façons innovatrices de réaliser des reportages sur toutes les plateformes
Compétences
- Expérience de travail dans une salle de rédaction numérique en temps réel
- Solides compétences de rédaction et révision et excellent jugement journalistique
- Excellentes aptitudes de communication verbale
- Connaissance du style de la PC
- Aptitudes supérieures de recherche et connaissance des plateformes des réseaux sociaux
- Habileté à organiser son temps et son travail de manière efficace
- Des compétences en audio et vidéo sont un atout
- Le bilinguisme est essentiel
