Position Title: Dietitian

Component/Team: Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Management

Status: One Year Maternity Leave Replacement Contract, 1.0 FTE Full-time (35 hours per week)

Salary Scale: $66,448 - $80,044 annualized salary plus benefits

Start Date: March 4, 2024

Position Description:

The Registered Dietitian is a clinical nutritional counselor for individual clients, groups and community members. The Dietitian is also a health promoter and a consultant to staff requiring specific nutritional resources and technical expertise. The Dietitian works in partnership with staff, clients and groups to strengthen the capacity of the community to access nutritious, safe and culturally appropriate food. The Dietitian works collaboratively with all Sandy Hill Community Health Centre programs.

Reporting Relationship:

The Dietitian is directly accountable to the Director of Health Services for the carrying out of his/her duties through the Director Health Services to the Executive Director. The Dietitian is responsible for maintaining the licensing and regulatory requirements of the College of Dietitians of Ontario.

Skills, Education and Experience:

Requirements for this position include:

Education and Language

  • A Baccalaureate degree in human nutrition
  • Dietitian of Canada accredited Dietetic Internship
  • Registration in the College of Dietitians of Ontario
  • Under the Centre’s designation to provide French Language Services:
  • French (oral expression): Advanced
  • French (oral comprehension): Advanced
  • French (reading comprehension): Advanced
  • Fluency in English, both oral and written
  • Ability to communicate in a third language an asset (Priority third language: Arabic)

Professional Experience

  • Three years’ experience in nutritional counselling, group facilitation and adult education in a community-based environment
  • Demonstrated experience applying health promotion and community development strategies
  • Sensitivity and experience working with socioeconomic and cross-cultural issues in diet, nutrition and food access
  • Experience with motivational interviewing principles and techniques
  • Experience as a preceptor for dietitian students and interns

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary setting
  • Ability to conduct individual and community nutritional needs assessment
  • Flexible and creative
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications
  • Familiarity with harm reduction model
  • Sensitivity to nutrition-related needs of low-income families, newcomers, young parents, people with concurrent disorders and mental illness and people living with HIV or HEP C
  • Awareness of food security issues
  • Demonstrated success in fostering community partnerships and leveraging community resources
