Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller manages the day-to-day accounting transactions and activities required to support the operations at Entuitive. The Controller is responsible for coaching and leading a team of accounting professionals while effectively managing all of the accounting functions including monthly consolidation, financial reporting, audit and statutory reporting. Liaising with internal and external stakeholders including project principals, committee and department heads, the management team as well as banks, auditors, vendors and clients will be key to this role. This role will also support the Director of Operations for project performance and key project metrics. As a Controller, this role will assist in executing department goals and fostering a collaborative team environment while supporting the vision, mission, and values and our One Company culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting amp; Compliance:

  • Leads the external audit process and tax compliance by preparing financial statements and working papers while, working closely with the audit team to ensure proper controls and measures are in place and recommendations are shared and followed up on.
  • Ensures complete and accurate financial reporting including monthly financial analysis, committee reporting, preparing and distributing monthly and quarterly financial statements, and bank reporting.
  • Responsible for monthly consolidation of financial statements and project reporting for five legal entities and three different currencies and reviewing all the intercompany transactions.
  • Establishes and monitors internal controls to ensure that accounting activities are in accordance with regulatory compliance and supports Entuitive’s process, policies and procedures.

Accounting amp; Financial Operations

  • Manages the month-end and year-end financial close process and reviews month end reconciliations within established timelines.
  • Carries out project accounting tasks for large and or complex projects including reviewing agreements, maintaining fee letters, budgets, fee forecasts, billings schedules, billing clients, processing sub consultant invoices, review project percent complete and follow up on collections etc.
  • Reviews and approves bi-weekly employee payroll, including terminations, hires and changes, as well as and bonus runs.
  • Reviews all payments and disbursements to employees and 3rd party vendors and suppliers (EFT payments) considering contract terms and cash flow.
  • Reviews and approves bi-weekly employee expenses, corporate visa payments and reconciliations.
  • Leads special initiatives required to support the finance department with the implementation of new accounting policies, processes and controls including liaising with Vision consultants regarding trouble shooting, upgrades, or reporting requirements.

Risk Management

  • Ensures compliance and coverage is maintained by working with brokers and preparing client insurance certificates including error and omissions, commercial and general liability, workers compensation, and any specific project-related insurance as required.
  • Attends Project Principal Meetings and provides financial insight on the health of projects by analyzing fee forecast, costs, accounts receivable and work in progress. Identifies tactics and approaches to optimize project financial performance.

Budgeting amp; Forecasting

  • Responsible for implementing the budgeting process within established timelines, including collecting and consolidating sector/service and department/committee budgets.
  • Works closely with sector/service and department/committee leads to provide data, trending and analysis including investigating overages to support forecasting and budgeting activities.
  • Assists with forecasting activities including determining annual revenue and costs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications amp; Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce with specialization in finance or accounting coupled with a CPA (CGA, CMA or CA).
  • Over 10 years’ experience working in a general accounting role with project accounting experience and leading people, preferably within a professional services firm.
  • Well versed in all elements of the accounting cycle, knowledgeable with consolidating multiple currencies and entities (in particular US and/or UK) considered an asset.
  • Experienced and comfortable working with several accounting applications, familiarity with Deltek Vision would be highly desirable.
  • Strong analysis and problem solving ability to meet organizational needs.
