Job Description

Blackline Safety is hiring a Market Intelligence Manager to join our growing team, based in Calgary, Alberta. As a seasoned market intelligence professional, you bring a unique blend of inquisitiveness, strategic orientation and a drive for excellence. Your passion lies in uncovering valuable insights from diligent market research and competitive intelligence activities. With an adept ability to analyze market trends, competitor behavior, and customer needs, you excel in identifying opportunities for product-market fit across new segments and regions. Your expertise extends to a deep understanding of buying journeys and what problems they want solved in the industrial health and safety market. Collaboratively, you play a pivotal role in informing and aligning team strategies with the most current and relevant information, ensuring a comprehensive grasp of our buyers and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the market intelligence function - conduct in-depth market research to identify trends, opportunities and threats, analyzing industry reports, market data and competitor strategies. Establish and maintain a reporting cadence to inform decision-making across Sales, Marketing, Product and Executive leadership teams.
  • Continuously update stakeholders with new, relevant market information to enhance their use of market and competitor intelligence as we build new products, develop messaging and build campaigns.
  • Conduct market research on competitors, product market fit, regional regulations and legislation, empowering stakeholders with critical information.
  • Track competitive announcements and online activities, alongside information from sales engagements and other qualitative sources. Evaluate their credibility, utility and analyze competitors’ products, sales and marketing strategies.
  • Oversee customer insights by gathering an analyzing customer feedback and behavior to understand their needs, preferences and pain points.
  • Manage customer win/loss interviews conducted by a third-party vendor, create reports and disseminate findings to relevant stakeholders including executive leadership.
  • Own the development and upkeep of Blackline’s personas (buyers, client administrators, and/or users); and map out the buyer’s journey and any corresponding core collateral requirements.
  • Work closely with marketing, sales, product management and development to share insights and recommendations.
  • Provide actionable market and competitive intelligence, proactively making recommendations to leadership concerning key intelligence items for strategic planning.
  • Identify and suggest new market opportunities, innovations and improvements.
  • Forge strong relationships across the business to understand strategy and pain points and ensure market content is strategically aligned and impactful.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A diploma or degree in related field (Business, Marketing, Economics or related field)
  • 6+ years in similar role, ideally with the majority of time spent in B2B technology sector.
  • Ability to understand business challenges, strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate to actionable insights (draw conclusions and determine connections)
  • Ability to identify, source, and analyze data and information from available resources and identify trends.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills, with the ability to articulate findings clearly to various stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Great critical thinking and problem-solving skills with an ability to communicate complex ideas in clear, concise ways.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high-growth, fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Be both independent and a team player focused on excellence.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada or the United States. Our head office is in Calgary, AB and our team works business hours in the Mountain time zone.
  • Experience working with NetSuite, HubSpot or equivalent CRM an asset
