We are currently looking for a Senior Accountant to join our team. The Senior Accountant will report to the Controller.
- Supports the month end process including preparing and recording journal entries and accruals.
- Prepare year-end workbooks and working papers
- Prepare and file GST returns for multiple entities (monthly, quarterly, and annually)
- Assist with payroll and other HR duties (preparing contracts for new employees, enrolling employees in benefits plan)
- Reconciliation of capital asset accounts and intercompany accounts
- Recording GL entries and bank transactions
- Review of Trial Balance for entities to ensure that transactions are recorded accurately.
- Assist in preparing monthly draws for projects and CTC reports.
- Analyzing and reporting cost variances
- Secondary support for Accounts Payable:
o Process invoices when received.
o Cheque runs.
o Coordinate discussions between vendors and project managers re: disputed invoices and POs
o Organizing AP folder (filing invoices)
o Employee expense report and payments
- Review bank reconciliations prepared by Junior Technician
- Assist with property accounting (managing and recording rent received, assist with Common Area Maintenance (CAM) letter preparation)
- Other Ah Hoc tasks as needed by the Controller
Requirements
- Professional Accounting Designation (CGA,CMA,CA,CPA) considered an asset
- A minimum of 3 years of general accounting experience in Canada required
- Strong knowledge of job costing
- Financial statement preparation experience
- Advanced Excel Skills
- Excellent spoken and written English skills
- Self-motivated, results driven, detail oriented
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of tax (GST, partnerships, corporations, trust) is preferred
- Knowledge of real estate industry, property management and partnerships is preferred
- Knowledge of property management is preferred
- Public practice experience considered an asset
- Live in Calgary or surrounding area
