Nelson is searching for a highly organized and dynamic individual for the position of Project Manager in Toronto. Reporting to Senior Manager of Content Management, you will be responsible for day-to-day leadership and management of digital and print products. The Project Manager will participate in the planning of projects and oversee the development and production stages, providing overall workflow/scheduling expertise with the goal of ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to Nelson’s quality standards. The Project Manager has overall project accountability and will leverage the contributions of internal staff including Program Specialists, Content Editors, Content Coordinators, Digital Content Developers, Digital Delivery Leads, and Rights Acquisitions Project Managers, as well as external vendors including editors, proofreaders, designers, and full-service vendors in the completion of the work. In addition, the PM will liaise with and manage day-to-day deliverables from stakeholders to meet project dates and contribute to the creation and monitoring of project budget. A key aspect of this role is to ensure that the content quality and product vision is maintained throughout the project’s life cycle.

The position requires hands-on project management skills, high attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work with technical and non-technical staff and vendors. Key to the success of this position is the ability to work well under pressure, manage competing priorities, and thrive in a technical and quick-changing environment.

Requirements

Project Planning

  • Provide support as needed through Ramp;D for product vision and conceptualization, including participating in market research activities such as meetings, workshops, and focus groups
  • Participate in project planning meetings to plan for content development and production of product (e.g., author/advisor meetings)
  • Work with Senior Manager, Content Management and Publisher to determine timelines and costs (e.g., writing, editing, production, reviewing, proofreading, alt text) for both prototypes and full products
  • Work with Publisher to develop and validate cover and interior designs for print products
  • Coordinate creation and approval of art specs package

Project Management

  • Gather project requirements and create project schedules and project plans that determine workflow and timelines for a product
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of project budgets by obtaining and monitoring cost estimates and tracking actuals
  • Follow standard project workflows and processes or, if standard workflows and processes will not suffice, create custom project workflows and processes as needed to meet project requirements
  • Execute, and manage process and workflow for digital and print content, from conception to go-live/publication, including markup, writing, editing, production (HTML editing, composition), integration of partner content, and creation of metadata and interactive content
  • Manage the conversion of existing print content into digital format, from project approval to go-live
  • Collaborate with internal Product Solutions, Content Editorial, Digital Content Production, Intellectual Property, and technical teams to ensure that content milestones are met as per schedules and budgets, that work is progressing within project scope
  • Source, engage, and liaise with reviewers and external vendors including designers, Content Editors, Production Editors, illustrators, copyeditors, proofreaders, and indexers
  • Ensure that content-preparation requirements (e.g., manuscript, storyboard, etc.) are understood and followed
