Job Description

You will work with large and varied data sets (batch and real-time) originating from our wireless connected devices communicating from all over the world. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will help expand and optimize our data pipeline in a scalable, secure manner, while ensuring its accuracy.

You believe big data helps businesses solve real-world problems. You bring experience and communication skills that can influence decision-making related to our data pipeline architecture. You can also create within and support our existing data warehouse and ETL processes that support our Business Intelligence team. You understand documentation is important and can work in an agile development environment, striving to follow best practices for software development.

Requirements (Data Skills/Qualifications/Education)

  • Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Analytics, Information Technology or related fields
  • 5+ years of experience in a Data Engineering role
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge, experience working with relational databases, authoring SQL queries for MySQL, Postgres, Redshift
  • Experience with big data tools: Spark, EMR, Redshift, Kinesis
  • Advanced knowledge of software development using other AWS technologies not already mentioned, including S3, Lambda, Kinesis
  • Experience working with APIs and building API endpoints for real-time reporting
  • A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large, disconnected data sets using ETL/ELT processes in an established big data tool (i.e., Matillion)
  • Understanding of the entire software development process, from gathering requirements and documentation to implementing CI/CD pipelines to deploy services to multiple environments (i.e., staging and production environments)
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools such as Datadog and Pager Duty
  • Java, Python, Scala experience

Optional

  • Experience with other big data technologies, including Snowflake, Hadoop, Hive, Flint, Kafka
  • Knowledge of data analysis tools such as Power BI, SSRS
