Our Story:

The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program was established in 1982 in honour of Terry Fox, one of Canada’s most beloved heroes. In his lifetime, Terry captured the hearts of Canadians all across the expansive country. To this day, he is widely recognized all over the world for his extraordinary sense of purpose and the ideals of courage, determination, and altruism. The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program was created to commemorate Terry’s remarkable life and his contributions to cancer research and awareness. Through Sports Canada and Canadian Heritage, the Government of Canada generously laid the foundation for our scholarships through two endowments of $5 million in 1982, and another $10 million in 2006. The endowments are an investment in Canadians, inspiring young humanitarians to seek the high ideals that Terry Fox exemplified.

Job Description:

Overview:

The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program is in search of a dynamic and seasoned Alumni Engagement Manager to lead and elevate our alumni relations and fundraising efforts. We are seeking a self-motivated individual with a diverse skill set, encompassing event management, donor relations, database management, and marketing. The ideal candidate will play a key role in driving the program's growth and success, taking ownership of various responsibilities to streamline tasks for other team members.

Responsibilities:

1. Alumni Relations and Giving:

  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance alumni engagement, including alumni giving and donor relations.
  • Cultivate relationships with alumni to build a strong and supportive community.

2. Event Management:

  • Plan and execute alumni events, reunions, and stakeholder gatherings.
  • Coordinate logistics, budgets, and promotional activities for events.

3. Database Management:

  • Maintain an up-to-date alumni database, ensuring accurate records of links, interests, giving history, and other relevant information.
  • Utilize database insights for targeted engagement strategies.

4. Fund Development Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement pipelines for planned giving and future fundraising initiatives.
  • Explore and implement planned giving strategies.

5. Communication and Stewardship:

  • Create and distribute monthly newsletters, ensuring compelling and relevant content.
  • Foster donor relations through regular communication and stewardship activities.
  • Leverage marketing abilities to create compelling written content and engage in social media outreach.

6. Administrative:

  • Handle administrative tasks related to alumni engagement and fundraising.
  • As part of this dynamic role, the successful candidate will also take on a variety of other responsibilities, contributing to the collaborative and multifaceted nature of our organization.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in alumni relations, donor relations, or related roles.
  • Event management skills with a track record of successful event execution.
  • Familiarity with database management and software implementation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with marketing experience.
  • Bilingual proficiency, with a preference for French-speaking candidates.
  • Fundraising experience, including campaign experience and understanding of planned giving strategies.
  • Experience conducting feasibility studies is an asset.
  • Ability to collaborate with team members and take on managerial responsibilities.

Benefits

  • Salary range: $80,000 to $90,000.
  • Vacation: Three weeks with office closure between Christmas and New Year’s.
  • Work format: Hybrid. The office location is at Simon Fraser University on Burnaby Mountain.
