Job Description

Position Summary

  • Be an active member of the team by contributing to the design and layout of new buildings, expansions, major/minor renovations, and conversion projects relating to retail stores, restaurants, commercial, industrial, and residential buildings for all respective divisions
  • Support our vision and mandate to provide best in class design, planning, and technical support, to meet our valued client’s expectations
  • Prepare and develop conceptual floor plans, conceptual site plans, architectural drawings, details, and notes in conjunction with the Manager and Studio Lead, Design Consultants, Engineers and Architects, and Clients
  • Provide support to the team members during the projects and ensures that both and clients’ design standards are adhered to in all aspects of the position with emphasis on high value and functionality

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provided full creative and interior design direction for projects from initial Concept Designing to detailing and execution. Coordination with client internal Store Planning, Real Estate, Merchandising, Graphic, Procurement and Millwork teams to ensure final product is keeping with design vision.
  • Project Scheduling and Tracking of external teams/consultants/general contractors with direction for various design changes over the course of projects. Project coordination with contractors and suppliers; Including site visits/coordination, surveys and shop drawing approvals.
  • Ensure a complete project drawings file, both hard copy and electronic copy are maintained on the design phase of any given project
  • Assist and maintain the standardization of both design and clients’
  • Conduct site audits and transfer as-built information onto layouts
  • Assist in preparing specialty projects such as Network Nights, Trade Shows, Equipment Specification Reviews, etc.
  • Required to perform minor/major changes and updating of drawings on AutoCAD/Revit, make drawing prints
  • Responsible for maintaining client equipment catalogue library, organization and updating as required
  • Anticipate and/or minimize potential problems by maintaining current knowledge of assigned projects
  • Attend meetings as required with the Studio Lead or Manager with regards to planning
  • Assist the Studio Lead / Manager in maintaining standard details, equipment specifications, and related documents
  • Ensure that all assigned tasks, timesheets, expense sheets, and report requirements are fulfilled
  • Contribute to coordination of all consultants required to produce design and working drawings
  • Identify to Management any new ideas, opportunities, and initiatives for cost savings
  • Keep the Studio Lead / Manager advised of conditions affecting projects existing and corrective action taken or performed Attend meetings as required in the absences of the Studio Lead / Manager with regards to planning with the client
  • Remain alert to regulations and directives that might affect the design of projects
  • Support the Studio Lead / Manager in mentoring and training Intermediate/Junior associates

Working Conditions

  • Travelling will be required occasionally. On occasion longer (out of province) trips may be required
  • Occasional site visits to constructions site may be required
  • Normal office environment five days per week, office, and design tasks

Requirements

Required Skills

  • Minimum requirement is a diploma in Architecture or Engineering Technology or related construction interior field
  • 6-8 years of experience as a technologist in an Architectural firm
  • 10 to 12 Years Minimum experience in the Canadian Retail, Food Service and Commercial Real Estate Design/Construction Sectors.

Computer Skills:

  • Formal AutoCAD/Revit training, drawing skills in current AutoCAD/Revit release

  • V-Ray Render
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
  • Working knowledge of Municipal by-laws, building codes, and/or construction detailing is required
