About Us

VodaSafe is an exciting young company working to transform the water rescue industry. We were awarded BC Tech’s Startup of the Year at the Technology Impact Awards 2022 as well as top finalist for Telus Stand With Owners competition. Our first product, AquaEye, is a hand-held scanning sonar device for waterfront rescue that was launched in 2019 and has been adopted by search and rescue organizations across North America and around the globe. We are currently selling into 47 countries and want to provide more for our customers. That is why we are looking for a Software Product Manager who can lead the development of our integrated software product.

About the Role

The Technical Product Manager will be reporting to the Director of Engineering and will be responsible for the development and execution of AquaEye software (app and web dashboard) as well as the user experience. They will be responsible for managing how customers use and interact with AquaEye software including UX design, customer insights research, as well as management of the development team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 6 years experience in Product Management, preferably in IoT/hardware integrated software systems. They will have strong people management skills and thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, and excel at communicating vision to management and coaching to mentees.

Responsibilities

  • Define and champion the strategy for VodaSafe’s first software product
  • Work with engineering team to build a complete product that minimizes interruption to hardware or firmware design and development
  • Work with Sales and Marketing team to prepare for product launch and strategize around successful product adoption
  • Generate reports and summaries on market data, customer feedback and product management decisions to be presented to management
  • Works with Director of Engineering to produce and manage roadmaps for software development including timelines for development milestones and testing
  • Works with CEO and Director of Engineering to build out a software development team
  • Manages software development team to ensure technical specifications are understood and are being met by design, and that all team members have access to all information required to complete their tasks
  • Reports project progress, risks and any issues to Director of Engineering and CEO (management) to support timely resolution
  • Works with engineering team to ensure software development is aligned with firmware development to ensure delivery of a complete product to market
  • Develops software architecture based on design requirements
  • Conducts detailed code reviews at regular progress intervals
  • Writes robust, reliable code
  • Writes thorough documentation
  • Provides instruction, mentorship and guidance to junior developers

Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum 6 years of demonstrated experience in Product Management, preferably in IoT/system/hardware integration products
  • End-to-end software product development and management for cloud-based products
  • Project and team management experience with the ability to communicate vision and goals to all levels of an organization
  • Ability to write clean, robust, and well-documented code as well as familiarity with software revision control systems (Git, Jira)
  • Working in a fast-paced, changing and/or startup environments with small teams or independently

Knowledge

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of skills and experience
  • Strong understanding of software development cycle, agile frameworks, and how to manage a development sprint
  • A customer-centric mindset, consistently thinking from the customer's perspective and going beyond surface-level feedback with a focus on root cause analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to multiple stakeholders and clients.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Strong decision-making skills to provide quick inputs and resolve issues and escalations.
  • Demonstrates an interest and enthusiasm in the product, industry and mission of our company
  • Comfortable in and around open water
