Job Description

Position Description:

Reporting to the Chief Building Official or designate, the incumbent will be expected to carry out a variety of tasks relating to various aspects of Building Department functions, such as but not limited to:

  • Assist with front counter, email, and telephone inquiries.
  • Assist Building administration staff with the coordination of building permit applications, development applications and inspection requests.
  • Provide records and file management assistance including but not limited to routine filing of various correspondence.
  • Provide administrative support for other departmental staff as required.
  • Undertake special projects, as assigned by the Chief Building Official or designate.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • College or University Student enrolled in a discipline related to Office Administration, Architectural, Construction or Civil Engineering Technology.
  • Valid Ontario Class G2 Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Computer literacy utilizing Microsoft Office, Chrome, and BlueBeam. Preference given to students with advanced knowledge in specific programs such as CAD, GIS.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Basic understanding of municipal functions
  • Excellent listening skills, coupled with a desire to learn new concepts.
  • Bring strong organization skills, ability to maintain confidentiality, prioritize, and multi-task.
  • Good time management, interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, professionally, and courteously with the public, elected officials, staff, other levels of government, and community organizations, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience in the general operation of office equipment, i.e. photocopier, fax, etc.
  • Employment is conditional upon attendance at all required training sessions, submission of required documentation/certification, adherence to the minimum age requirements and ability to meet the employment term.
  • At time of application must be enrolled in a post-secondary education institution or institution of higher learning.
  • Applicants must submit a criminal record check (dated within the last 3 months) from their local police service for approval prior to commencing employment.

Hours: 35 hours per week

Duration:

The duration of this contract will be approximately 3 months. Applicants are expected to fulfill the entire contract period commencing May 1, 2024 until August 30, 2024.
