Job Description

POINT Biopharma Global Inc. is a globally focused radiopharmaceutical company building a platform for the clinical development and commercialization of radioligands that fight cancer. Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Scientist, the Associate Research Scientist will be responsible for performing mammalian cell culture, molecular biology assays, preparation of reagents and experimental therapeutics for use in in vitro and in vivo experiments. The biologist will also manage inventory and order reagents/lab supplies and perform routine maintenance of standard biological laboratory equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in mammalian cell culture and familiarity with aseptic technique. Moreover, the ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to follow protocols, to be highly organized, to maintain accurate records of experimental details and to generate SOPs. The biologist will work closely with the Discovery amp; Preclinical teams at POINT to advance candidate radiopharmaceuticals for preclinical development.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Position

  • Cryopreservation, routine subculture and preparation of mammalian cells for use in in vitro and in vivo experiments
  • Managing inventory of, and ordering lab supplies and reagents
  • Preparing solutions, reagents, and experimental compounds as necessary for experiments
  • Collaborate with partnering animal research institutions for sample hand-off, retrieval, etc
  • Record data and clearly communicate experimental details and scientific results
  • Work collaboratively with teams of diverse scientific expertise
  • Facilitate preparation, packaging and shipping of samples and materials to external facilities and partners
  • Ensure an orderly and functional laboratory environment and perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment such as incubators, water baths, arranging for micropipette calibration, etc

Requirements

  • BSc or MSc in biology, biochemistry, or related field
  • 2-3+ years of laboratory experience in academia or, preferably in an industry setting
  • Strong experience in mammalian cell culture (subculture, aseptic technique, cryopreservation, etc)
  • Experience in ordering and managing inventory of lab reagents and routine upkeep of laboratory equipment
  • Working knowledge of preclinical oncology and murine tumor models, including syngeneic and PDX/CDX

Additional Preferences

  • Experience with commercially available assays such as fluorescent/luminescent reporter assays, ELISA, etc is considered an asset

Work Environment

This position’s work environment is onsite downtown Toronto near College Street and University Avenue at the MaRS building.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to work on your feet, or at a lab bench or tissue culture hood for up to 8 hours
  • Must have use of full dexterity to perform routine tissue culture, benchwork, etc in a laboratory setting
  • Working schedule is during regular business hours five days a week, however due to business requirements there could be evening or weekend coverage and proper notice will be provided
