  • Create and revise manuscript documents.
  • Meet with the Nelson publishing team by video conference to discuss progress and content queries.
  • Submit manuscripts according to schedule.
  • Revise manuscripts as needed.

Requirements

  • Interest in education and learning, especially curriculum
  • Ability to write at a variety of reading levels, including children and young adults.
  • Conversancy with responsible and equitable representation and editorial practices, including an understanding of Truth and Reconciliation and its place in education.
  • Organizational skills and ability to multitask and work well in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong creative writing skills and willingness to learn and apply new skills.
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office products (including PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Teams)
  • Willingness to learn basics of Smartsheet.

Benefits

All freelance work at Nelson is carried out on a work-for-hire basis, with Editors/Writers signing a work-for-hire agreement and submitting invoices for work on agreed-upon tasks and projects. The rate of pay ranges depending on experience and skill level, or sometimes according to predetermined task-based flat rates.
