Job Description

As the Director, Sustainability you are going to be shaping the future of impact at tentree and across the industry. Reporting to the CEO, you will be responsible for the co-creation and cross-functional execution of the company’s environmental, social, and governance roadmap.

At tentree, it is our goal to become the most sustainable company on the planet. Already, we are in the top 10% of BCorps globally, have planted over 52MM trees, developed an industry-leading sustainable collection, and become carbon neutral. Now, we want to go further. We are looking for a leader who can idealize where we want to be, create the roadmap to get there, and work cross functionally with the entire organization to make it a reality. tentree is a dynamic, fast-growing environment and the right candidate will be driven to make a tangible metric-driven impact, have the ability to digest large volumes of data to identify opportunities, inspire others through storytelling, and simplify the complex world of sustainability.

What will you be doing?

  • You will establish and support the rollout of the company-wide impact strategy, in support of tentree’s vision to be a global leader in sustainability amp; social impact
  • You will identify external amp; internal trends and issues, and understands how they relate to tentree including areas such as carbon offsetting, carbon technology, natural climate solutions, the apparel industry, and reforestation
  • You will own the development and drive the ongoing coordination amp; execution of the Impact Roadmap, working cross functionally with all key stakeholders
  • You will develop a metric-driven performance management system including KPIs, metrics and tracking, for ongoing reporting of key impact outcomes and measures
  • You will lead internal reporting, support integration of KPIs in business updates, and ensure visibility for impact progress
  • You will lead external reporting, rethinking impact and sustainability reporting in order to create an industry-leading approach to transparent sustainability communications
  • You will work closely with the Marketing team to simplify and communicate complex topics such as carbon footprinting, offsetting, measurement, and more
  • You will create communication materials for executive level engagement and transparency on Impact initiatives
  • You will create and execute a holistic communication approach
  • You will coordinate efforts across all departments within the company to develop and execute on holistic sustainability strategies that are delivered and communicated effectively
  • You will have an ability to extensively engage with internal and external stakeholders, acting as the spokesperson and lead for sustainability within the market
  • You will build a sustainability community and provide support, guidance and training to develop knowledge on sustainability across the organisation

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressive environment and sustainability experience is required (apparel and growing brand experience is an asset)
  • Strong experience in sustainability management, reporting and assurance frameworks (GRI, UN SDGs, GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard)
  • Experience in environmental footprinting and the Life Cycle Assessments
  • Experience creating innovative plans to support complex environment and sustainability strategies
  • Demonstrated the ability to embed sustainability/social objectives within organizations, project and program management, leadership and executive engagement
  • Proven ability to measure and analyze impact of program efforts
  • Must be extremely flexible to deal with changing priorities in the work environment and be able to exercise independent judgment and discretion as appropriate
  • Ability to work both independently and on a team, working with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong presentation and facilitation skills
  • Possesses an entrepreneurial spirit and continuously innovates to achieve great results.
