To provide the crucial linkage between Operations and Finance, we are excited to be seeking an exceptional Manager, Operational Accounting for our Canadian operations. Reporting to the CFO, and based out of BURNCO's corporate Head Office in Calgary, as Manager, Operational Accounting, Canada you will be a key contributor to supporting operations through timely and accurate reporting, variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting, process improvement and growing the financial literacy of the operations group. This role has a dotted line reporting to operations and a direct line to finance to ensure that internal controls, compliance to ASPE and corporate policies are adhered to.

This role is ideally suited to someone proactive, analytical, insightful and personable who has spent time excelling at similar responsibilities in the construction or manufacturing industries and is now looking to make their mark at one of Canada’s premier construction materials supply organizations. What you will be doing:

  • Partnering with Operations Managers to assist in ensuring:
    • Results are timely, accurate and complete
    • Report operational results monthly, quarterly and annually
    • Analyze and explain variances to budgets and forecasts
    • Provide key performance metrics
    • Develop annual budgets and quarterly forecasts
  • Business analysis to understand ROI on operational decisions
  • Reviewing and developing policies and processes to drive improved efficiency in cost accounting and reporting
  • Working closely with operations to improve financial literacy in the operations group
  • Actively with other groups in the organization, such as supply chain, to improve organizational efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with ASPE and corporate accounting policies
  • Provide strategy and useful financial insights to the management team helping the various stakeholders make the best business decisions/strategies so that the impact of their actions on profits is positive
  • Lead annual operating and capital budgeting, documentation for the Canadian region
  • Check financial information systems to ensure they are effective, and that appropriate internal control systems are in place and available.
  • Work with management teams to identify cost leakage and waste, identifying and implementing actions for their reduction or elimination identifying improvement areas and streamlining of processes
  • Assist with annual audit requirements and oversee all areas of financial risk management.


Requirements

What we would like from you:

Qualifications amp; Experiences

  • Must have 7 to 10 years related work experience within a manufacturing or construction environment
  • Bachelors Degree in Commerce, Finance or Business Administration or similar discipline
  • CPA designation (or CA, CMA, CGA also considered)
  • Solid knowledge of ERP systems; knowledge of Oracle Cloud would be an asset
  • Advanced level proficiency with Excel, and well versed in the use of other MS Office applications
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE, IFRS and COSO framework
  • Experience in cost accounting including preparing costing analysis, actual to variance analysis, identification of root causes of variance
  • Highly analytical and driven
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely across all levels of the organization
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking abilities with demonstrated ability to offer strong financial analysis
  • Self-starter, team player, able to work independently
