THE JOB
This role is responsible for the interaction with the user community to elicit, analyze, define, validate and manage requirements for changes to applications and residing systems. The BA needs to be able to understand business needs and the technology required to address those needs. Create structured queries against databases. Create and modify system reference material including user documentation, system reference documentation, and IT policies and procedures. This is also a leadership role providing mentoring/support to IT professionals and business decision makers engaged in business requirements and workflow processes.
Responsibilities:
- Elicit requirements using various techniques including interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, and task and workflow analysis.
- Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs.
- Maintain a vision of current and future projects in the portfolio; analyzes the impact of change requests and ensures alignment of the delivered solutions to ensure that they add value and benefit to the organization.
- Proactively communicate and collaborate with external and internal customers to analyze information needs, functional requirements and deliver the following artifacts as needed: Functional requirements, Business Requirements, Use Cases, GUI, Screen and Interface designs
- Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management, stakeholders, and business units project leaders
- Develop full-scale project plans and associated communications documents.
- Perform root cause analysis and succinctly define the business requirements.
- Serve as the conduit between the customer community (internal and external customers) and the software development team through which requirements flow.
- Collaborate with developers and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs.
- Provide test cases, coordinate and execute testing efforts to ensure development meets functional requirements.
- Mentor other BA’s and members of the IS team enhancing their understanding of business needs, scope control and the need for user documentation.
Requirements
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical field or satisfactory combination of formal education and experience
- 3+ years of practical experience in an Information Technology department
- 3+ years supporting and understanding business systems;
- Project management experience an asset
- Specific experience with SQL queries, business views and report writing various reporting solutions
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills to interact with team members, customers and vendors
- Excellent knowledge and skills of Microsoft Office Suite and above average MS PowerPoint, Access, Visio and Excel
- Solid creative thinking and problem-solving skills and experience required
