Purchasing and Inventory Coordinator
Reporting to the Senior Accountant and Plant Manager, the Purchasing and Inventory Coordinator orders and maintains the appropriate inventory levels through on-site and off-site locations taking into consideration production schedules and lead times. They also understand how inventory movement through the shop affects the financial information presented and can book basic accounting entries and perform month-end analysis.
Responsibilities
- Builds relationships with steel mills and service centers to get the best price (Nucor and domestic)
- Coordinates the purchasing of materials ensuring timely delivery to meet all production schedules
- Understands the rolling schedules at various mills both in Canada and the US
- Coordinates material movement between mills, holding yards, off-site services such as galvanizers, and our shop
- Continually searches for new suppliers at better price points
- Deals with quality issues on received products, if any
- Knows what is on hand at any given point, where itβs located, and the reorder points of each material
- Completes any adjustments based on weekly inventory counts
- Runs the monthly inventory count and makes all necessary adjustments
- Monitors scrap levels and accumulates scrap documentation, including responsibility for verifying the weights of loads
- Performs the CNS (completed not shipped) count annually and monitors, tracks, and clears CNS throughout the year. Completes the CNS entry at month end.
- Able to assess inventory for obsolescence. Completes the obsolescence provision at month end.
- Reconciles all inventory accounts monthly and makes correcting entries as necessary
- Tracks inventory movements in and around the shop as well as at outside facilities and steel mills
- Coordinates with the shop team, shipping team, and receiving team
- Receives material and other purchases in SAP
- Creates purchase requisitions in SAP for material and other items
- Produces and submits the weekly production statistics report to Corporate
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years experience in a high volume purchasing role
- Minimum 1-year experience with basic accounting (debits and credits)
- Past experience with SAP is considered an assets
