Job Description
We are looking for a dynamic and self-motivated individual to join our photo archive team on a temporary basis as a Photo Library Digitization Assistant. The successful candidate will have a strong mix of technical (photographic/digitization) skills and knowledge of the history of photojournalism in Canada. They will work with the Manager, Images Archive and Digitization to digitize the Canadian Press’ historic photo library.
The anticipated start date for this role is April 5 and is expected to be 6 months in duration but could be extended to 8 months.
This position requires full-time work at the Toronto office.
General Responsibilities:
- Scan/digitize prints and negatives.
- Assist with selecting photographic prints and negatives for digitization.
Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience with digitization work (cameras and scanners) and using Capture One Pro and Adobe Photoshop.
- Good understanding of raw file capture and processing.
- Strong skills using macOS operating system.
- Previous experience selecting and editing news photographs.
- Previous experience working with and handling archival/analogue photographs (prints and negatives).
- Good knowledge of IPTC metadata standards and CP Style.
- Knowledge of CP’s online archive cpimages.com.
- Ability to remain focused and work quickly while doing repetitive but interesting! work.
- Motivation to work on a single project from start to finish.
- Good organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with a very small team.
- Previous experience working with Phase One’s Cultural Heritage system is an asset.
Educational background/work experience:
- Post-secondary education in Photographic Preservation and Collections Management, archival/museum studies or equivalent

Nous sommes à la recherche d’une personne dynamique et motivée pour se joindre à notre équipe des archives photo à titre temporaire comme assistant(e) à la numérisation de la photothèque. Le (la) candidat(e) choisi(e) possèdera une bonne combinaison de compétences techniques (photographie/numérisation) et de connaissance de l’histoire du photojournalisme au Canada. Elle travaillera avec le gestionnaire des archives photo et de la numérisation pour numériser les images historiques de la photothèque de La Presse Canadienne.
On prévoit ouvrir ce poste le 5 avril pour une durée de six mois, qui pourrait être prolongée jusqu’à huit mois.
Ce poste comporte du travail à temps plein au bureau de Toronto.
Responsabilités générales :
- Numériser des tirages et des négatifs.
- Aider à sélectionner les tirages et les négatifs pour la numérisation.
Compétences et expérience :
- Expérience préalable du travail de numérisation (appareils numériques et scanners) et d’utilisation de Capture One Pro et Adobe Photoshop.
- Bonne compréhension de la procédure et capture de fichiers bruts.
- Excellente connaissance pratique du système d’exploitation macOS.
- Expérience préalable de sélection et édition de photos d’actualité.
- Expérience préalable de traitement de photos analogiques d’archives (tirages et négatifs).
- Bonne connaissance des standards de métadonnées IPTC et du style de la PC.
- Connaissance des archives en ligne de la PC cpimages.com.
- Habileté à rester concentré et à travailler rapidement en exécutant un travail répétitif, mais intéressant!
- Motivation pour travailler sur un seul projet du début à la fin.
- Bonnes aptitudes organisationnelles et souci du détail.
- Habileté à travailler en collaboration et avec flexibilité au sein d’une très petite équipe.
- L’expérience préalable de travail avec le système Phase One’s Cultural Heritage est un atout.
Formation scolaire/expérience professionnelle :
- Études postsecondaires en préservation photographique et gestion de collections, études muséales/archivistiques
