CNIB Lake Joe is a fully accessible lakefront facility located in Muskoka providing a unique blend of recreation, skills training, social interaction and personal discovery in a safe, inclusive environment. CNIB Lake Joe stretches over 12.5 acres of waterfront property on the northwest corner of beautiful Lake Joseph. Staff and volunteers provide a wide range of high-quality programs to people of all ages who are living with sight loss.

Reporting to the Facility Operator the Facility Assistant will assist with the maintenance needs of CNIB Lake Joseph Centre with a strong focus on providing the best guest experience. As a member of the facility team, responsibilities for the position include, building and equipment maintenance, assisting with property projects and helping with other property duties as required.

As a requirement of the position, candidates must have their own CSA approved safety shoes/boots.

• Assist with upkeep of CNIB Lake Joseph Centre’s building and facilities which include but is not limited to water systems, alarm and emergency systems, and other facility related support;
• Seasonal property maintenance, including snow removal and landscaping;
• Conduct and document daily inspections to all buildings and grounds as well as report findings to Facility Operator and/or General Manager;
• Maintain the general cleanliness of the centre grounds at all times;
• Be positive and helpful to all guests and staff members;
• Assist with special functions and events on site;
• Assist with general maintenance of all site vehicles, including vans, boats and grounds equipment

Requirements

• Strong interpersonal skills including patience, empathy and communication;
• Ability to commute to Lake Joseph Centre daily;
• Knowledge of cleaning products, site equipment and general building maintenance;
• Experience with machinery and tools an asset;
• Must provide current Police Record Check;
• Must have a minimum G Class driver license;
• Must provide current Drivers Abstract;
• WHMIS Training
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR C Certification, an asset;
• Experience in building or facility maintenance, an asset;
• Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.);
• Ability to work as part of a team;
• Ability to work flexible hours if necessary (summer);
• Ability to work in a changing and busy environment.
• Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset
• Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset
