For more than 50 years, CNIB Lake Joe has been providing an exciting, safe, and accessible camp experience for people living with sight loss. CNIB Lake Joe is looking for a Head Counsellor amp; Special Programs Lead to help us bring the magic of summer camp to life for people living with sight loss!
What you'll do
- The Head Counsellor and Special Programs Lead will lead and support the planning and facilitation of all special programming (i.e., arrival nights, camp-wide games, evening programs, pop-up programs) as well as supporting all other programs. The Head Counsellor amp; Special Programs Lead will support the camp counsellors and volunteers to ensure that guests have an exceptional experience while at Lake Joe.
- Plan, manage and facilitate special programs for guests (children, youth, adults, seniors and families)
- Provide leadership to camp counsellors, including supervision, coaching and support in special programs
- Provide clear communication to all guests, including program announcements and any changes to the programs
- Communicate clear expectations to staff and volunteers about their role before, during and after the program
Requirements
We want to hear from you if you have:
- Strong interpersonal skills, including patience, empathy and communication
- Experience in camp or other recreation programs
- Experience supervising and coaching others
- Must have good organizational, planning and leadership skills
- Current (within 6 months of start date) Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR C
- Swimming certifications such as Bronze Cross/NLS an asset
- Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCO) an asset
- Must reside at CNIB Lake Joe during operational season and be willing to share accommodations with other staff member
- Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset
