Job Description

Full-time, East or Central Ontario

Reporting to the President CNIB Guide Dogs, the Head of Operations, CNIB Guide Dogs, is a member of the CNIB management team and is responsible for supporting the development of a strategic approach and framework while contributing to the day-to-day leadership of CNIB's Guide Dogs. This position oversees operations, service quality and standards to ensure compliance with CNIB and the International Guide Dog Federation.

This position will represent CNIB Guide Dogs with a range of national and international stakeholders. This includes supporting stakeholder relation activities and public awareness efforts in recognition of CNIB's commitment to changing what it is to be blind today for individuals who would like to become or maintain their independent travel with a guide dog.

This role is newly created, and the successful candidate will be expected to help in both the shaping of the role, and the defining of its objectives and targets. This position is primarily focused on implementing transformational strategies that will drive significant growth, expansion and innovation for CNIB Guide Dogs.

Your impact at CNIB
  • Oversees daily operations of the Guide Dog and International portfolios within CNIB including facilities, vehicles, maintenance etc., in consultation with Facilities Manager and Canine Campus team
  • Responsible for contributing to strategic planning processes of CNIB Guide Dogs
  • Devise specific strategies for different areas of expansion within each province.
  • Works collaboratively with local management and staff teams in identifying growth plans and achieving them.
  • Develops and continually improves high-quality internal and external information relating to CNIB Guide Dogs for the benefit of CNIB's stakeholders, clients, volunteers and staff
  • Supports the President CNIB Guide Dogs to liaise with partner organizations nationally and internationally and identify opportunities to collaborate and network
  • Works effectively with the President CNIB Guide Dogs to support the organizations' overarching goals
  • Ensures key messages are delivered consistently and effectively to all audiences through various communication platforms
  • Seeks opportunities for funding and works effectively with the Philanthropy Department to ensure consistency and quality of funding proposals
  • Assists with preparing annual budgets and tracks expenditures and works closely with the President CNIB Guide Dogs and Finance Department
  • Actively participates in and supports the accreditation process
  • Utilizes supportive management techniques, provide supervision to direct reports including interviewing and selection of new employees, the completion of performance evaluations, approving requests for leaves of absence, approving all expenditures, and providing discipline if required
  • Provides oversight and monitoring of toll-free hotline associated with CNIB Guide Dogs
  • Promotes the understanding of program design and delivery processes and facilitates the evaluation process to meet service quality standards within financial and resource constraints.
  • Supervises Puppy Raising Supervisors, Dog and Puppy Acquisition strategies, Veterinary Advisor, Dog Care and Wellness team, Client Experience and Ambassador Dog Program Lead as well as Buddy Dog Program Lead.
  • Supports the development and implementation of effective program delivery systems to ensure equitable services are delivered in an efficient and effective manner for all clients in accordance with CNIB and IGDF standards
  • Monitors Salesforce and KPI efficiency results, workloads for staff, and waiting lists for guide dogs.
  • Provides recommendations regarding new program initiatives and ideas to meet consumer needs and improve service delivery
  • Develops and monitors CNIB Guide Dogs operating plan and annual budget in accordance with management directions and standards
  • Assists in the research and development of proposals and other documents as required; facilitates the preparation of statistical and information reports on CNIB GD programs and services
  • Identifies the educational and training needs of staff and assist in the development of staff training workshops and seminars in consultation with Manager of Apprenticeship and Staff Training.
