We have a full-time opportunity for an Indirect Tax Specialist/Accountant to join our Accounting Team.

As an indirect tax specialist, you will be the go-to person regarding global tax regulations. You will keep track of tax regulations in various jurisdictions and apply them to the business, making sure the company is tax regulations compliant worldwide. Different countries have different tax laws, so good knowledge of tax regulations in several countries will be paramount to the support the company and our international clients. Your proficiency in tax regulations will also prove essential in interpreting indirect tax laws and in invoicing. Your continuous learning approach will help you keep up to date with changes and upcoming adjustments.

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare and file indirect tax returns in a timely manner
  • Ensure VAT/indirect tax compliance in invoicing process
  • Prepare indirect tax entries in accounting system
  • Prepare reconciliation of indirect tax between tax statements and accounting records
  • Correspond with tax authorities from multiple jurisdictions and monitor the organization’s indirect tax position to ensure compliance
  • Regularly interact with external auditors and stakeholders about indirect tax issues to warrant compliance with local tax authority
  • Evaluate and improve processes and controls to optimize compliance efficiency
  • Identify indirect tax risks and opportunities
  • Track changes in indirect tax in different jurisdictions to ensure compliance as the business grows and evolves
  • Contribute to ad-hoc tax research and gain thorough knowledge of evolving tax rules
  • Assist in month-end, quarter-end and year-end close to ensure compliance with IFRS and Corporate policies

You are a great fit if you have:

  • Minimum three-year experience working with big four or a medium firm or if you are a qualified tax consultant/accountant
  • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Ability to interpret and explain complex tax legislation
  • Knowledge of several indirect tax systems
  • Experience with other taxes compliance
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other business analytical tools
  • Ability to adapt quickly and learn new tasks independently while being able to take initiatives
  • Exposure to multi-currency Accounts Receivable, VAT, GST and invoicing by entities under different geographic locations
  • An inquisitive approach and make it a point to keep up to date with latest legislation and upcoming tax changes

Bonus points if you:

  • Understand OECD guidance
  • Have knowledge of IFRS
  • Have experience with ERP accounting systems
  • Have a strong interest in the technology sector

This role is a full-time position based in our Richmond, BC office. Working from home is available during the Covid pandemic. Only local candidates will be considered for this role.
