The Richmond Chamber of Commerce (the Chamber) is the City of Richmond’s most influential and diverse business membership organization representing some 900 members of all sizes and stages of maturity, operating in most industry sectors. Celebrating 96 years of operation, the Chamber continues to be the voice of business and innovative leadership for Richmond’s economic prosperity.
The impact of Covid on the Chamber’s business model has emphasized that being relevant to the business community during this period of change is now more critical than ever before. The Board of Directors (Board) is seeking a highly innovative and dynamic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who will help the Chamber provide outstanding service to its members and the business community.
Reporting to a 14-member Board, CEO will be responsible for the administration and overall management of the Chamber and its lean team of five staff and will advocate for key issues that are critical to Chamber members to all levels of government. The CEO will keep the Board informed and responsive to the needs of the members by engaging with all demographics within the business community, forming strategic partnerships, and creating new and meaningful ways to provide value to members beyond events and networking, which are currently being delivered online. As an innovative and strategic thinker, the CEO will lead the Chamber in re-imagining how to attract, retain and engage members, establish partnerships, and develop new revenue streams to ensure the Chamber’s ongoing relevance and sustainability.
Requirements
The role will appeal to an up-and-comer in their career with a keen interest in economic development and government policy, a strong understanding of business, and an appreciation of the various issues that businesses face in today’s ever-changing environment. To succeed, the new CEO will need a strong understanding of government policy and diverse business issues, have an entrepreneurial mindset, and be a natural and authentic networker who can build strong relationships with all demographics. The successful candidate must be a collaborative team player who is politically savvy and is a dynamic public speaker. Possessing a post-secondary degree and diverse business experience, ideally including perspective gained from a non-profit environment, the successful candidate will have experience working with all levels of government and a wide range of community stakeholders, and will have experience reporting to or serving on a board.
