The Opportunity:

We are currently looking for a Structural Superintendent to work in our Southeast Calgary location. Reporting to the Structural Manager, the Structural Superintendent is accountable for ensuring all safe work procedures are being followed, preparing drawings for the shop, scheduling and organizing manpower, and achieving the required outcomes with time spans of up to 3 months. Additionally, the successful candidate in this role will:

  • Ensure all workers in the shop are following safe work procedures
  • Receive, organize and prepare drawings for the shop
  • Determine manpower requirements for shop
  • Order material and create cut lists for the shop
  • Understand scope of work and organize workflow in shop to effectively meet customer deadlines
  • Complete metric-based shop loading
  • Supervise and lead crews, and ensure that they have the necessary tools and equipment to be successful
  • Communicate with different departments to ensure deadlines and budgets are being met
  • Understand Alstar’s structure and strategic plan, and actively advocate for the organization
  • Ensure the shop has all tools/materials needed to complete the job
  • Complete daily time entry for employees

Requirements

  • Journeyman Welder Certification
  • Minimum 5 years of supervision experience
  • Outstanding safety record and dedication to safety as the top priority
  • Proven leader with desire to motivate employees and foster development, engagement and teamwork
  • Strong strategic focus, partnered with motivation for continuous improvement
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
  • Strong initiative, and driven by results
  • Ability to thrive under pressure
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
