Job Description

Basic Function:

Through direct program coordination and facilitation, enables children, youth, adults and families to develop skills, become engaged in the community, live healthy lifestyles and participate in recreation opportunities. The Recreation Program Coordinator is accountable for delivery of programs and customer service for participants under the guidance of the Supervisor, Community Programs.

Position Description:

  • Coordinates facilitates and evaluates daily program activities such as sports, games, crafts, workshops, skill/certification based courses, on-line programming and special events for all ages/abilities.
  • Liaise with Recreation Coordinators to ensure programming is adapted to participant needs to support an inclusive environment
  • Participates in the delivery of special events offered by Norfolk County Recreation Department
  • Liaise with community partners and interdepartmental divisions regarding community events/initiatives
  • Prepares program plans and organizes equipment. Purchases supplies, coordinates field trips/entertainment as required per Norfolk County policies
  • Maintain program attendance records and markets existing and new program
  • Provide on-site customer service during events at the Simcoe Recreation Centre
  • Provide general administration including balancing daily cash and completing deposit reports
  • Greet customers at the Customer Service Desk, respond to telephone and walk-in inquiries. Process registrations, issue memberships, process requests for rentals and facility booking, handle complaints and provide information on upcoming events in the County
  • Serves as a liaison with participants, community partners and/or parents of participants (where applicable), reinforcing Norfolk County’s customer service, diversity and inclusion (special needs, ethno-cultural, English as a second language, socio-economic)
  • Follows Norfolk County policies and procedures in program activities
  • Maintains positive, constructive relationships with fellow staff
  • Participates in orientation and training sessions
  • Provide exceptional customer service to patrons regarding all aspects of recreation programs offered in Norfolk County
  • Assist with ongoing programs or Divisional projects as required
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Requirements

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Grade 12, plus a minimum two year Community College diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies or equivalent.
  • Over two up to and including three years of experience in a Coordination role within direct recreation programming in a Municipal environment

Skills and Abilities:

  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development
  • HIGH FIVE Quest 2 Certification
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development Trainer (considered an asset)
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Aging (considered an asset)
  • First Aid and CPR C Certification
  • Strong interpersonal, communication time management and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment, accept and follow verbal and written instructions, complete duties to an acceptable level of quantity and quality with minimal supervision and follow all of Norfolk County Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Must be motivated individual able to work outside in all weather (hot, dusty, cold and wet). Daytime, evening and weekend shifts will be required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and problem solving skills
  • Working knowledge of CLASS and Perfect Mind
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department specific software to data search and entry and to create and modify word processed documents
  • Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and have the basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
