Job Description


Lethbridge School Division is excited to have two (2) Student Labourer positions available this summer. These positions will commence mid-April, 2021 and end August 27, 2021.

The student labourer position requires the employee to work outside in various weather conditions for extended periods of time. The labourer must comply with all safe works practices, policies, and processes in a labour intensive role. Lethbridge School Division, embraces diversity and functions in a dynamic, innovative and fast paced environment. The successful applicants will work under the direct supervision of the Labour Foreman.


The student labourers will not work during indictment weather as directed by Labour Foreman or designate.


The duties would include but are not limited to:

  • Moving and cartage of mail, equipment, furniture and supplies
  • Maintenance of grounds by lawn mowing, edging, power raking, aerating, week spraying and fertilizing
  • Spray application of insecticide and pesticides
  • Prune trees and shrubbery
  • Operation of underground sprinkler systems
  • Paint athletic game lines in fields and to hard surface markings including stairs and courtyards
  • Perform maintenance and repairs to concrete and asphalt surfaces as required
  • Maintain fencing systems such as wood, chain link, and woven metal wire fabric
  • Service gas powered small equipment
  • Maintenance of fleet vehicles, tractors and snow blowers
  • Observe and report defective/damaged physical education equipment to be repaired or decommissioned
  • Operate vehicles and equipment used in construction building maintenance in a safe and courteous manner
  • Assist other Operations and Maintenance personnel as required

What will you work?

The successful candidates will work 40 hours/week Monday through Friday.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma
  • A valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers License
  • Satisfactory Drivers Abstract
  • Ability to operate a vehicle with trailer
  • Through knowledge of the applicable rules and regulations of safe driving

Fitness and Abilities

  • Able to stand or walk for extended periods
  • Able to lift and carry up to 22 kg independently and 22-31.5 kg with assistance
  • Able to work in a highly active physical environment
  • Able to work with a variety of chemicals
  • Must be physically capable of performing heavy manual labour for extended periods of time under various weather conditions

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Exhibit behaviors of a positive and cooperative co-worker, will be safety focused and a responsible individual who takes pride in their work
  • Communicate effectively using courtesy, tact and discretion with maintenance staff, caretaking, school staff, students, parents and building users
  • Effective use of time including setting of priorities, keeping to schedules, attendance and punctuality
  • Demonstrated ability to keep records and fill out required Division forms and paper work

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

In order to ensure and maintain a safe and secure working and learning environment, applicants new to Lethbridge School Division who are offered employment must provide:

  • A satisfactory police information check; including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment.
  • A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • A satisfactory Drivers Abstract
  • Proof of photo identification, may be a valid driver’s licence, provincial identification card as issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport or Nexus card. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire.
  • Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name.

Benefits

The wage for this position is $20.00/hour.
