Job Description

Fiddler’s Green Landscaping Inc. is a high end residential landscaping construction and garden maintenance company located in Calgary, Alberta. Our professional team includes Olds College graduates (Diploma and Applied Degree), Landscape Industry Certified Technicians, and employees who are continuing their horticulture training.

We are currently looking for an upbeat, self-starter Residential Landscape Crew Leader. We are seeking someone who takes pride in their work and the company they work for. We require a person who enjoys leading and teaching people, while enjoying the pressure of meeting timelines and budgets.

Work includes managing a small crew by prioritizing projects, assigning work tasks, using equipment, communicating with the crew members and office staff, maintaining accurate records, handing in paperwork on a daily basis, monitoring work quality, ensuring crew safety, training employees, and providing performance feedback, all while working alongside the crew/team. The Crew leader leads and participates in performing various landscaping and horticultural functions. The Crew Leader is responsible for following up on the procurement of materials, work orders, and record-keeping for each project which is handled through the office. This type of work does subject the Crew Leader to inside and outside environmental conditions, extremes in temperatures, along with hazards associated with equipment operation including fumes, oils, gases and mists.


Main Duties amp; Responsibilities:

  • Attend customer meetings as required by the Manager and manage the relationship with the customer through good public relations and communication practices, keeping in mind that most formal communication goes through the office directly.
  • Recommend the advancement and termination of crew members to the Manager.
  • Continually train new and existing crew members on the job, in the correct performance of their duties. In particular; ensuring that new crew members (and crew members assigned to new tasks or equipment) are properly trained.
  • Make suggestions to the President and Managers for continuous improvement of field procedures, equipment, etc., that will increase efficiency, reduce waste and increase productivity.
  • Ensure thorough understanding of projects, contract requirements, and customer expectations prior to beginning the project.
  • Serve as a working crew leader and render technical assistance and direction to the crew members on the job.
  • Personally safeguard and account for Company owned tools and equipment assigned to crew members on the job.
  • Be aware of all equipment maintenance requirements that your crew uses and perform them. Example: grease, checking oil and air pressures on equipment daily.
  • Maintain safety on the job, by verifying that each employee knows the safety practices required by their position, conducting daily safety inspections for the site and reporting any safety hazards to the Manager. Constantly watch for safety problems. Immediately report any employee injury or occupational related illness to the Manager and the office.
  • Assign work on the job site, and closely supervise the daily time usage and output of the crew members on the job, to ensure maximum productivity of quality standards. Observe, measure and take action on the productivity of the crew in the field.
  • On a daily basis, turn in all paperwork: Accurately measure the quantities of equipment and material used, and labor expended for daily job cost log.
  • Continually strive to maintain and improve the quality of the work on the job site, to ensure that it meets or exceeds company and customer expectations and requirements.

Requirements

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Equipment experience (Excavator, skid steer, gas powered tools)
  • Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Pulling a truck and trailer (driver’s abstract that can be insurable)
  • Physically fit and can lift at least 50lbs
  • 2-3 years experience in Residential Landscape Construction or Maintenance:
  • Knowledge of construction practices, safe use of landscape equipment, and plan reading
  • Hardworking and self-motivated

  • Grading
  • Tree and perennial installation
  • Mulching
  • Plant ID and plant care knowledge
