THE COMPANY
At Anthratech Western Inc. (AWI) we provide water treatment solutions for industrial and municipal water and wastewater treatment plants in Canada, the United States and select international markets. AWI is privately owned, with our head office and research and development facility located in Calgary, Alberta.
THE POSITION DRAFTSPERSON/DESIGNER
AWI’s Draftsperson/Designer is responsible for engineering designs, general arrangement drawings, fabrication drawings and documentation packages. They actively participate in a design team consisting of AWI’s Product Development Manager and Project Managers.
The successful candidate will have a high level of thoroughness and accuracy when working independently in a fast-paced environment. Experience with AutoCAD Inventor an asset.
Responsibilities include:
- Preparing engineering designs, drawings and related technical information from sketches and project notes while following AWI Drafting Standards.
- Assist with the company’s transition from using AutoCAD Mechanical to Inventor.
- Supporting Project Managers with project design and implementation.
- Communicating ideas and solutions clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
- Checking and verifying design drawings to ensure conformance to specifications and design data.
- Completing general arrangement drawings, documentation packages and fabrication drawing sets.
- Performing calculations using prescribed methods of design and applicable industry standards, codes and regulations, supporting the work of Engineers.
- Involvement in field and site work.
- Involvement in quality control checks both in-house and with vendors.
- Supporting coworkers through collaboration, cross training and information sharing.
Hours of work:
- Core office hours are Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- May include some evening and weekend work. Occasional travel to project sites is required.
OTHER
Candidates considered for this position must pass AWI’s background check and screening process. Drug and alcohol screening is required prior to hiring and prior to attendance at certain worksites.

Requirements
Qualifications:
- Diploma in Engineering Design and Drafting with a focus in mechanical, sheet metal or industrial.
- Intermediate knowledge of drafting using AutoCAD Mechanical.
- Working knowledge of sheet metal fabrication is a strong asset. Field experience in construction or mechanical assembly an asset.
Personal and professional skills:
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently and use critical thinking to problem-solve.
- Ability to analyze and interpret technical information.
- Communication skills (both verbal and written). Bilingual (English/French) language proficiency an asset.
- Customer service focus with the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to handle changing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
