Job Description
The Enterprise Architect supports the Manager in overall enterprise technology initiatives, by serving as the organization’s expert in enterprise IT architecture. Key responsibilities are planning and designing the ITS capabilities to meet desired organizational objectives. Activities include cataloging, developing, coordinating, communicating, maintaining, and enforcing overall enterprise architecture models, representations, initiatives, capabilities, and components to perform the organization's business and technology activities.
The position will provide the final review of architecture documentation and provide guidance to other ITS teams to ensure all projects and changes are in adherence to architectural principles and adhere to the overall enterprise architecture vision and design. As a part of this role, the individual will also be a subject matter expert to enable the integration of business, data, and technologies.
DUTIES:
Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, and working within a team structure, this position is responsible for enterprise architecture design, planning and compliance
Design
The duties include the final review of documents and providing technical expertise in architecture design, including the following:
- Analyses, defines, evaluates and provides final review of enterprise architecture requirements across the various architecture domains for large scale/enterprise wide IT systems in order to optimize effectiveness
- Participates in/conducts feasibility studies, architecture reviews of new IT systems or modification / redevelopment of legacy systems;
- Facilitates and seamlessly integrates business strategy and service strategy into the enterprise architecture roadmap by partnering with both the business and other ITS teams in the areas of:
- Business architecture design, including co-ordination of business processes and collecting business requirements/ objectives, incorporating geographic, functional, and organizational targets;
- Information system architecture, including designing the integration of data and applications across the enterprise in alignment with the business architecture; and
- Technology architecture, including designing the integration of technology systems and middleware;
- Provides subject matter expertise for the integration of solution components in ITS architecture domains, including the final review and technical decision-making on the complete integration of complex systems;
- Promotes the use of a shared infrastructure and application roadmap to reduce costs and improve how information flows;
- Provides facilitation and stewardship across the spectrum of enterprise architecture across all of the architecture domains;
- Partners with business and technology subject-matter experts to elicit and translate business requirements into technological solutions;
- Establishes guidelines and strategies for the selection of solution architecture components, and co-ordinates design activities
- Creates and documents architecture artifacts;
- Manages and facilitates evaluation of project proposals for architectural fit, collaborate with other team members to achieve project milestones and evaluate IT solutions against the organization’s IT needs;
- Provides expert technical support for the integration of systems for both sustainment and projects.
Planning
The duties include the final review of documents and providing technical expertise in ITS planning, including the following:
- Works closely with business and technology teams to connect strategic goals to business outcomes
- Builds the long-term strategic roadmap for all IT systems architecture;
- Aligns IT strategy and planning with the company’s business goals and objectives;
- Creates and communicates architecture strategies capabilities and plans, including future states and roadmaps, to all partners including the business, delivery teams, and ITS Management;
- Researches and understands industry trends and their applicability to support architectural plans and strategies for the enterprise;
- Completes impact and risk assessments and presents results to influence strategic investment decisions;
- Leads the analysis of the business’ s future state capabilities, operating models and future ITS ecosystems to detect critical deficiencies; makes strategic recommendations to business and ITS leaders to rationalize business and technical services
- Leads a cross functional team of subject matter experts in the development of enterprise architecture/architectural blueprints, enterprise reference architectures, and technology roadmaps that will be leveraged in an integrated fashion;
