People with sight loss often say having a guide dog is a transformational experience that provides mobility, safety, and confidence. We believe everyone who would like to have a guide dog should have that opportunity. At CNIB Guide Dogs, we raise, train, and match dogs with Canadians who are blind or partially sighted. We are looking for an ApprenticePuppy Raising Supervisor to join our Guide Dog training team in delivering a thorough and best in class program. During your apprenticeship you'll get on-the-job experience working alongside our experienced team. You'll learn all about how to:

  • Recruit, train, and support Puppy Raisers/boarders, and ensure that resources are in place to meet the planned allocation of puppies
  • Assess, monitor, and record the puppies' social, educational, temperamental, and physical development, and maintain accurate health progress records
  • Identify puppies that are ready for intake into training and recommend those that should be withdrawn
  • Train and support volunteers throughout their puppy raising careers to ensure their ongoing development and performance management
  • Organize and conduct training classes on best practices, education, and support to Puppy Raisers and boarders.

Requirements

We want to hear from you if you have

  • Current valid driver's license
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in related field (animal welfare, people managements, teaching/mentoring)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills in written and verbal English
  • Demonstrated aptitude for puppy and dog handling
  • Ability to undertake the physical demands of the role, including walking long distances with a range of dog breeds, ages, and temperaments
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset
