Job Description

At Owl, we tackle one of the most difficult challenges facing insurers around the globethe right way. We are committed to using data and AI ethically, so insurers and their clients are comfortable with these technologies, and no longer have to pass the costs of malingering, exaggerated, and criminal claims onto their policyholders and bottom-line. We’re venture-backed and have already acquired some of the largest insurers as paying clients.

You will have the opportunity to:

• Work on a Greenfield project, collaborating closely with the VP of Engineering, Senior Engineers, Machine Learning specialist, Product Manager and UX Designer to build the next version of our product
• Work in a results-driven team and produce quality by leading or contributing heavily to large cross-functional projects that have a significant impact on the business.
• Actively own features or systems and define their long-term health, while also improving the health of surrounding systems.
• Assist our skilled support team and operations team in triaging and resolving production issues.
• Be part of hiring and growing the team and deeply review code
• Influence the engineering standards, tooling, and processes

• You possess strong computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, programming languages, distributed systems, and information retrieval
• You’ve been building web applications professionally for many years and have experience working with AWS or other cloud providers.
• You have experience and enjoy working with functional languages
• You can lead technical architecture discussions and help drive technical decisions within your team
• You write understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability
• You are a strong communicator. Explaining complex technical concepts to designers, support, and other engineers is no problem for you
• You have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, or equivalent training, fellowship, or work experience

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with Clojure, ClojureScript or Javascript in production (Clojure is not a must have here but it will be a part of the need at hand to start out, so must be willing to learn and work it)
  • Knowledge of NLP or ML is useful

    • Competitive salary and equity
    • Health, dental, and vision insurance
    • Flexible working hours + work-life balance
    • Beautiful workspace in Vancouver and Toronto office coming soon!
    • Amazing culture of collaborative and passionate coworkers
