Job Description

The Press Operator produces all offset press projects in compliance with job specifications and in accordance with company quality standards and procedures. Coordinates workload schedule to meet customer time frame requirements while achieving optimum productivity. Performs daily/weekly/monthly maintenance on equipment to ensure optimum output. Works closely with other team members to exceed customer expectations.

Responsibilities and Duties:

General and Administrative

  • Communicate effectively with the Production Supervisor and the Production Team informing and updating them regularly to guarantee that both sales and customer objectives are met.
  • Coordinate with Production Team to produce and prioritize jobs, and when necessary reorganize to meet deadline changes and updates.
  • Wear appropriate safety protection when using or mixing chemicals.
  • Participate as a key player in the Production Team by supporting operations as needed.
  • Comply with all OHSA safety requirements.
  • Follow systems and procedures outlined in the Company Policy Manual.

Press Operations

  • Operate the offset press in accordance with equipment operating procedures.
  • Interface with the Production Coordinators and/or Prepress to ensure a complete understanding of the order.
  • Receive and output offset files for use in completion of the docket.
  • Operate offset presses to produce complete customized jobs.
  • Perform all offset press operator functions as noted on the work order.
  • Monitor for quality issues, and/or errors found during the printing process.
  • Assist with routine operational maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain knowledge of safety requirements of job and equipment.
  • Operate any other equipment as needed to complete the work order.
  • Assist with job packaging as needed.

Equipment and Supplies

  • Clean and maintain equipment and work area following maintenance procedures and update maintenance logs.
  • Understand and perform all troubleshooting procedures on the offset presses.
  • Monitor and manage inventory of supplies. Order and stock supplies as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Inform supervisor of equipment problems.
  • Place service calls and coordinate with the vendor for the repair of equipment as needed.
  • Perform repairs and replace machine consumables as needed

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of on-press experience.
  • High school or GED equivalent.
  • Familiarity with handling digital files.
  • Able to apply written instructions to machine set-up and maintenance.
  • Solid understanding of offset lithographic process.
  • Basic understanding of prepress functions.
  • Require good mathematical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Meet or exceed minimum test results as designated by hiring manager.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent lifting of objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Standing for prolonged periods of time up to 8 hours or more per day.
  • Periodic overtime may be required.
  • Exposure to ink and chemical fumes, and airborne particles such as paper dust and drying powder.
  • Fast-paced environment: Subject to numerous schedule and priority changes and short notice activity.
  • Noise level is usually moderate to loud.
  • Work area may have fluorescent lighting and air conditioning.
