Journeyman Millwright (6 Months Contract)

Job description:

The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical support to the Maintenance team, and to ensure safe and efficient Maintenance operations. Possibility of extension of contract based on plant requirements.

Principle Accountabilities:

• Perform repairs, maintenance and troubleshoot plant machineries and equipment
• Carry out machine setups, welding repairs, pipe fitting and hydraulic repairs
• Work involve the use of surface grinders, lathe, radial drill and milling machines
• Execute preventative maintenance inspections and machine safety checks
• Should be familiar with heavy industrial equipment including; pumps, air compressors and blowers, mixing equipment, extrusion process equipment, pneumatic conveying and storage systems, and pneumatic and hydraulic controls/systems.

• Plan and layout work assignments from complex blueprints, sketches or verbal instruction and accomplish these assignments with the maximum efficiency.
• Capable of inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing plant machinery, equipment, systems, building and physical structures.
• Competently and safely use all tools and operate all machine tools such as lathes and grinders for the efficient overhaul, maintenance or set-up of Company property.
• Construct foundations for machinery or direct other workers to construct foundations.
• Assemble machinery and equipment prior to installation using hand and power tools and welding equipment.
• Capable of providing training, instruction and direction to apprentices or helpers assigned to them during the course of their duties.
• Must know and keep familiar all national, provincial and local codes as they affect repair, maintenance, safety, construction and dismantling of machinery, equipment and structures.
• Conduct preventative maintenance programs and keep accurate maintenance records.
• Work with other classifications of employees in emergency situations, plant shut down periods, and in times when machinery is not operating to perform all necessary activities to get equipment and machinery back into operation in minimum time.
• Responsible for ensuring at all times, that he will maintain as a result of his own work, good housekeeping as per the standard and for ensuring that he conducts himself in a safe and orderly way as per the Company policies and safe work practices.
• Where job functions normally required of the Forklift Operator are not available, he will be required to function in other capacities as may be required by the management of the Company.
• Be available for after hours call duty for two weeks per month or any other (mutually agreed) arrangements.

Requirements

Knowledge and Skill requirements:

• Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
• Experience with welding, hydraulics, blueprint reading, minor machining, minor electrical repairs
• Interprovincial Journeyman Certificate or Industrial Millwright Provincial Certificate
• Dual Ticket will be an asset.
• Must be able to work with minimal supervision
• MUST be computer literate (familiar and able to work with MS Excel and Word)
• MUST be able to work at heights (to work on top of outdoors industrial silos)
• Should be capable of maintaining a Friendly, Positive and Can-Do attitude under a very demanding and fast changing environment.
• Experienced licensed Millwright with previous exposure to PVC or similar industry is an asset
• Red seal trade certificate is an asset
• Ability to multitask in a fast paced and changing environment
• Excellent communication both written and verbal
