BURNCO has a rewarding and challenging 3 month (with the possibility of extension) contract opportunity for an experienced Temporary Benefits Coordinator to join our Human Resources team. Based out of our Calgary Head Office, you will report to our Senior Manager, Human Resources and be responsible for administering Group Benefits and Disability plans for our Canadian and US employees. This will include setting up new members, ensuring all eligible employees are enrolled on time, processing Benefit changes, calculating payroll deductions/taxable benefits together with members from our Payroll team, billing verification, reconciliation, and remittances.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Responsible for the accurate and timely administration of the Group Benefits and RRSP program for approximately 1200 to 1600 employees in multiple jurisdictions for New Hires, Employees, Terminations
  • Provide expertise and accurate guidance to the organization and leadership team in all matters relating to benefits and disability leaves
  • Manage benefit and disability plans including design, cost and usage analysis, benchmarking, renewals and compliance in areas of legislation in Canada and the US following best practice
  • Administer processes for all types of occupational and non-occupational disability leaves from initial reporting to return to work
  • Partner with 3rd party vendors to implement process efficiencies, literature and other communication for purposes of managing programs
  • Assist with resolution of escalated claims and provide appropriate next step recommendations
  • Oversee formal EFAP referrals, manage RTW programs and last change agreements
  • Coordinate and assist claimants with transition from STD to LTD


  • Maintain mutually respectful relationships with third party benefit and disability plan providers, employees, consultants and boards
  • Act as a resource for employees, advising the Senior HR Manager of pertinent changes or issues when appropriate
  • Provide counsel to HRBP's on issues pertaining to leaves, terminations, policy interpretation and other benefits related matters
  • Ensure benefits are processed in compliance with applicable Collective Agreements, company policy, and legislation in BURNCO's various operating locations
  • Complete any monthly/quarterly reconciliations as required
  • WCB Reporting as required

Record Keeping

  • Maintain and update employee information including wage increases, new employee registration, and terminations as they impact the various components of the benefits plan
  • Maintains all benefits files and ensures required documentation is received and valid
  • Provide ongoing recommendations for improvements to policies and processes to ensure the benefits program remains efficient and provides the best possible service to employees


What We Would Like From You

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years experience in administering all aspects of a large Group Benefits amp; Disability program
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills including MS Word, MS Excel (including ability to develop and use formulas)
  • Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines and effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities
  • Ability to maintain high levels of accuracy and strong attention to detail
