Overview
The Business Development Manager role at Goodfood is a unique opportunity to build out our extensive portfolio of new products. As we expand our portfolio from meal kits to ready-to-eat meal solutions and grocery essentials, you will play a key role in sourcing the best products at the right prices to stock on our virtual shelves. By finding the right suppliers for us to partner with, your work will be critical in building out our selection and shaping how Canadians from coast-to-coast conduct their food shop on a regular basis - help them drop the shop! As a Business Development Manager in one of our new divisions, your discoveries will be shared with hundreds of thousands of Goodfood members across the country.
Responsibilities
- Source suppliers that can fulfil the needs of our product roadmap, ensuring we bring a variety of options to the table that are able to hit quality and pricing parameters
- Constantly scout the world of food and food packaging stay close to trends to be able to make suggestions on new products that should be considered for our roadmap; taste every new product you launch
- Keep up to date with seasonality, weather and any other event that may impact quality and pricing of produce
- Manage the portfolio of vendors depending of the season and regions
- Follow closely what competitors are doing, promotions, flyers, etc.
- Support the management of the category by working closely with the buyers and QA teams across the different distribution and fulfilment centers
- Identify the market leading products in the portfolio you are responsible and source comparable products from suppliers
- Own the end-to-end process of rapidly launching a new product: consider supplier options, ensuring they meet pricing, quality and scale criteria; guide the product through our rigorous tasting panel; and supply the design team with the information they need to be able to bring the product to life under the Goodfood banner
- Develop strong supplier relationships and negotiate on pricing and terms that can translate into the best value for our members
Requirements
- 2 to 8 years experience, ideally in a sales / buying / business development / sourcing role or a role that required strong communication and efficiency. Experience with Produce major plus
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder management, and organizational skills - be just as comfortable negotiating with a farmer as you are with a corporate partner sales manager
- Great team player, focused on sharing information and leads to help the broader team
- Strong negotiation skills and an understanding of the need to structure flexible and pragmatic deals that allow us to test products and support our continued rapid growth
- Willing to get your hands dirty - be just as comfortable negotiating supplier terms on the hottest product as you are by hunting down the list of leads for the least exciting product
- Entrepreneurial mindset with can-do problem-solving attitude
- Comfortable in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Analytical aptitude with a focus on making data-driven decisions
- Autonomous and able to act like an owner
- Passion for food
- Bilingualism (English amp; French) is an asset
