Job Description

We are looking to recruit an ambitious operations-focused individual in a dynamic supply chain role as an Operations Manager in Ottawa on Goodfood’s Courier Operations team. As an operational leader, you are at the front-lines of Goodfood’s last-mile grocery delivery effort, and you will oversee a growing team of hourly supervisors and associates.

Operations Managers are responsible for managing all under-the-roof (UTR) warehouse operations. This includes ensuring the efficient and accurate sortation and movement of orders on a daily basis from multiple sites. They will also work cross-functionally with our on-the-road (OTR) Central Command team to maintain relationships with our couriers, and working with them to ensure OTR planning and issue-resolution can be executed quickly and at a low cost-per-box of delivery.

Position Areas of Responsibility

  • Lead the daily planning and execution of Goodfood’s same-day grocery final mile operation in Ottawa to ensure cost effective distribution to all Members through the tactical leadership and on-site coordination of order sorting and vehicle loading activities
  • Manage a team of supervisors and warehouse associates operating across multiple distribution facilities that run 18 hours per day, 7 days a week
  • Support the recruitment of independent contractor delivery drivers and act as the primary escalation point for
  • Oversee the maintenance, organization and execution of operational SOPs for distribution centers in independent and shared facilities across Southern Ontario
  • Ensure that chain of custody data for every order is meticulously maintained
  • Implement continuous improvement projects and share ideas that drive efficiencies, best practices, and cost savings across shifts and the delivery network
  • Work cross-functionally with central command teams to drive on-the-road (OTR) excellence and upstream supply chain teams to minimize disruptions to planned operations
  • Execute tactical planning and forecasting; performance appraisal and address staffing needs on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis
  • Lead local recruiting to identify and evaluate supervisor/associates and internal/external candidates for promotion and hire.
  • Mentor, train and develop teammates for career progression and learning

Basic Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to lift up to 49 pounds, stand/walk for up to 10-12 hours, and to frequently push, pull, squat, bend, and reach
  • A Bachelor's Degree (any discipline) or Diploma (supply-chain focused) from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Direct management experience of hourly employees
  • Hold a valid driver’s license

The Ideal Candidate

  • Strong academic record from a top-tier college or university with a degree in Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain Management, or other relevant area of study with an MBA or Master’s degree being preferred
  • Drives operational excellence You possess strong operational intelligence from 3+ years of direct experience in a manufacturing, production, distribution or logistics environment
  • Comfortable in Excel (or any other tool) You have a proven ability to navigate spreadsheets and existing tools; new technology excites you!
  • Team building You have previous experience interviewing, hiring, conducting performance management, developing, and terminating employees to build and maintain an all-star team
  • Detail oriented You possess strong organizational skills and consistently demonstrate a methodical approach to all your work
  • A natural communicator You can explain information and processes to a variety of audiences written and verbally
  • Ability to prioritize effectively, multitask and easily manage stress

Availability

  • You are comfortable working a non-standard schedule where needed to best align with critical business operations including overnight, weekends and holidays
  • Sunday to Thursday until you have developed a team of supervisors who can effectively operate independently on the busiest delivery days
  • 6:00 AM start times on most days
