Job Description

The Designer acts as the primary contact to the client during the design phase of projects. The Designer provides interior design expertise in a variety of project types including corporate, commercial, education, and industrial. With a strong understanding of the BC Building Code, s/he develops drawing sets and completes the building code analysis for building permit applications. Using applications like 3D Studio Max, Sketchup and Photoshop, the Designer creates planning documents that clearly outline design intent to the construction team as well as the client. This role requires strong project management and presentation skills to ensure that design specifications lead to the successful delivery of viable office solutions to our valued clients.

This lead Interior Designer role will be working in a dynamic work environment with a diverse corporate client base. Working closely with clients and leading the design team, you will be involved in all aspects of projects including delivery of quality, inspirational designs, preparing client meeting presentations and documentation, ensuring that the design specifications lead to the successful delivery of viable solutions to our valued clients.

You:

Design

  • Provides interior design expertise to clients and Aura staff members
  • Keeps up-to-date with trends in office design and furnishings
  • Builds and maintains relationships with suppliers/vendors
  • Acts as a primary client contact on design projects
  • Manages design projects (for project up to and above a $500,000 budget), considering budget, scope and scheduling constraints
  • Advises on approaches to improve project delivery
  • Works closely with Project Manager around scheduling, budgets, conditions, etc.
  • Identifies clients needs clearly through detailed programming
  • Creates and presents design work clearly and concisely to clients
  • Develops design concepts using 3D Studio Max, Sketchup and Photoshop
  • Designs development and construction documents (i.e. addendums, submittals, etc.)
  • Develops test fit plans (TFP) in AutoCAD to show space planning
  • Develops, using the BC Building Code, drawing sets and building code analysis for building permit applications
  • Develops drawing set for Issue for Tender (IFT)
  • Meets with trades and consultants on-site
  • Creates material boards
  • Creates detailed millwork drawings including elevations, sections, and details to clearly outline deign intent
  • Creates photo realistic 3D rendering using 3D Studio Max, Sketchup and Photoshop
  • Compiles Issue for Construction (IFC) drawing sets

General

  • Contributes to a culture of team building and continuous improvement
  • Creates and updates processes, procedures, checklists, and other documentation
  • Attends regular meetings, daily huddles, and other meetings as requested
  • Advises on approaches to project delivery
  • Mentor and coach junior interior designers
  • Contribute to a culture of team building and continuous improvement

Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Interior Design, Marketing/Sales, or a related subject
  • Interior Designers Institute of BC (IDIBC) membership preferred (or eligible for membership)
  • Registration with IDIBC or ability to register
  • LEED AP Certification is a strong asset

Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in the interior design of commercial and/or institutional projects (office, retail, hospitality, and education facilities)
  • Must be strong using RIVET

  • Thorough knowledge in millwork and detailing
  • Knowledge of office furnishings
  • Knowledge of various materials relating to finishes, furnishings and construction
  • Knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Windows, Office, Dropbox and other applications
