Leader Name: Managing Director, Communications


As Director of Internal Communications for ATB Wealth, you’ll work with the President and senior leadership team to ensure best practices in formulating and executing strategies for effective internal communications that boost team member performance, enable leader effectiveness, and help enrich ATB’s irresistible culture. At the same time, you’ll work with other communication leaders from across the organization to ensure a consistent approach to internal communications across ATB, and effectively introduce company-wide initiatives within ATB Wealth.

The Internal Communications Director works as a key member of the leadership team to understand priorities and key initiatives, listen to team members, and understand their internal communications needs. S/he identifies issues and priorities, develops communications strategies, manages issues, implements innovative and resonant communications solutions, and supports the goals of our ATB Wealth team in alignment with ATB’s overall business and strategic objectives. Although no direct reports, the Director works closely with communicators from the Communications Centre for support in the execution of communications strategies.

Specific accountabilities include:

Strategic communications development: As part of the overall strategic communications plan, s/he develops communication strategies that clearly deliver on ATB’s business objectives.

  • Contributes to the development and implementation of an overarching enterprise-wide communications strategy to support the business goals of ATB
  • Develops and implements best-in-class communications strategies, key messages, tactics and metrics that keep team members well informed, enhance engagement, increase the profile, and drive the business priorities and objectives of the teams they support
  • Provides strategic communications and issues management advice to the President and senior leadership team of ATB Wealth
  • Designs and develops performance metrics to track and evaluate success of communication strategies

Trusted partner: As part of the leadership team, s/he mentors communications team members while being a partner to business leaders by providing key subject matter expertise.

  • Provides communications expertise and counsel to the respective business leadership teams to ensure the communication approach best positions our business divisions with respect to ATB’s corporate goals

Strategic alignment: As a senior member of the communications team, s/he plays a leadership role in building our brand and advancing our culture.

  • Ensures all communications are aligned with ATB’s purpose and strategy, influencing team member engagement and reinforcing our strategic goal of an irresistible culture
  • Enhances and advances ATB’s culture and corporate image by infusing our corporate values internally (ATB ID) and proactively managing our reputation
  • Positions the business strategies and business plans within the context of ATB’s corporate strategy and business plan to further enhance team member understanding and engagement

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive communications experience
  • Experience within the wealth/investment industry
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in working with senior management and a proven track record of outstanding performance
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business or a related field, or a specialized diploma in communications combined with extensive experience
  • Exceptional leadership, collaboration, strategic planning and communication skills
  • Possesses change management and employee communications expertise
  • Ability to establish and convey a vivid and compelling vision
  • Proven track record at delivering results / Results-focused approach and strong work ethic
  • Proven ability to motivate and coach others
