Job Description

Spring Loaded is a medical device company that is looking to grow its accounting department. Reporting to the Controller, this is a great role for a designated accountant looking to get their feet wet in the hardware startup space. The Ideal candidate enjoys the rigors of timely reporting and takes pride in their work. Intermixed with standard month end and operational responsibilities, the ideal candidate enjoys wearing multiple hats and thrives on continuous improvement. Whether it is improving a process (we love automation) or finding ways to save money (a penny saved is a penny earned), the candidate will have the opportunity to own their role and be part of a team that loves to nerd-out on a data. As outlined in the responsibilities below, the candidate will receive a wide breadth of tasks, which can lead to fast-tracked growth. Additionally, a steady flow of projects will add a variety of work that will keep the candidate engaged and allow them to see the impact their work has on the trajectory of the company. Key Responsibilities:


Accounting Duties

  • Owner of on-time delivery of all aspects of accounting month-end and year-end financial close processes including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, working papers, account analysis, and variance analysis
  • Oversee systems related to all manufacturing activity, including but not limited to: reviewing inventory transactions and reconciliations, planning physical inventory counts with production manager, investigating and implementing corrective actions regarding operational variances such as, COGS, overhead, purchase price, and scrap variances. Investigate and resolve any variance that are unreasonable or not logical
  • Recommend appropriate accounting treatment for new products, instruments, etc.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting. Implement, document, and maintain adequate and effective internal controls, including but not limited to maintenance of the Company’s segregation of duties responsibilities and accounting folder structure
  • In conjunction with the business ops manager, make required improvements to the accounting and reporting system to keep up with multi-products and exceptional growth
  • Prepare, update, and monitor cash flow projections on a weekly basis
  • Apply company capitalization policy, assuring appropriate custody and valuation of assets and assisting management with economic benefit analysis for acquisitions, lease/buy decisions, disposal processes, etc.

Operations

  • Based on the production needs, complete required purchasing in SOS Inventory to ensure we never run out of anything. As owner of purchasing, the candidate will be able to build and modify the tools available to make this happen
  • On-board the production team onto SOS Inventory System, both to track sub-assemblies and labour hours
  • Design process improvement initiatives that touch all accounting systems and processes.
  • Design and build financial and operational scenario models to aid in business decision support, including business plans, capital asset purchases, best method for handling capacity issues, pricing impacts, reimbursement, go-to-market scenarios, new product, new market, and new business evaluation
  • Review and maintain procedural documentation of all accounting processes and policies
  • Additional analysis, research, and reporting as required by management.

Key Qualifications:
  • CPA designation, preferably in public practice
    • If the candidate has passed the CFE, an individual with less than one year of designated experience may be be considered if they can demonstrate applicable experience.
  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to either build a process, model, etc. from the ground-up or look for options to continually improve our current tools
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills that translate into actionable recommendations
  • Excellent work ethic with an understanding that overtime is required in busy times
  • Ability to work at the office
  • Advanced user experience with Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
