The Sitka Foundation (Foundation) is a mission-driven private family foundation that was established in 2007 to catalyze the protection of the environment and promotion of biodiversity in BC with a particular focus on Howe Sound and the Salish Sea. This is achieved through activation of its capital in philanthropy and investments.

The Foundation’s capital is invested in several mission-aligned strategies as well as traditional investments. The Foundation is committed to collaborative funding, community-based opportunities, mission-aligned activation of its investment portfolio, deep listening, and flexible grantmaking. Underpinning this is an organizational culture that is collaborative, encouraging of learning, and imbued with a deep love of nature.


Grants Manager

The Foundation engages in philanthropy that is relationship-based and informed by creative and collaborative partnerships. As a funder, it challenges itself to be courageous, to trust the partners it is doing work with, and to listen to them about what needs to be done.

A new position, the Grants Manager, will work with the Foundation team to research, facilitate and direct grantmaking in its philanthropic programs. Serving as the relationship manager for grantees, the Grants Manager will support funded projects, review progress, provide feedback, conduct site visits and interviews, and develop and nurture productive working relationships.

Requirements

The Grants Manager will report to the Foundation’s Executive Director and be responsible for managing an assigned portfolio. They will conduct research and due diligence to ensure that grants are strategic and well thought out. They will also be responsible for deepening relationships with grantees, supporting the Executive Director and collaborating with other stakeholders in the communities in which the Foundation works. The Grants Manager will have a post-secondary degree in a field related to biodiversity and a deep understanding of solutions to the nature crisis and biodiversity; a minimum five years’ experience as a program/grants manager preferably in a private foundation; solid research skills; and experience with grants management software and basic website management. The successful candidate will positively contribute to the Foundation’s curious and hard-working team, be comfortable wearing many hats, and embody the Foundation’s values collaborative, nimble, inclusive, flexible, relationship-based, thoughtful, creative and solution-oriented. Compensation for this position will range between $70K to $85K dependent upon the successful candidate’s experience.
