Job Description

The Program Coordinator, Recreation will play a key role in helping us change what is to be blind by promoting and delivering programs the create peer support opportunities, build participant confidence, and reduce social isolation. Working with a team of staff and volunteers, the Program Coordinator, Recreation will also support the everyday programming offered by CNIB Nova Scotia including the Smart Life Centre, front desk, fundraising activities, and technology programs.

To be eligible for the funding associated with this position, you must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

Essential Functions

Recreation Programs

  • Lead the promotion and delivery of virtual recreation programs offered by CNIB including scheduling guest speakers, developing games and activities, and hosting virtual events
  • Assist with delivery of one or two summer youth camps
  • Coordinate with a volunteer lead to implement the weekly Walking Group; provide sighted guide

Program Tracking amp; Evaluation

  • Contact clients to promote programs, collect demographic information, and complete surveys
  • Create social media content by interviewing volunteers and program participants and writing stories
  • Conduct data entry to track volunteer hours and client participation, while also registering clients and updating their contact and demographic information

Other Duties

  • Assisting with technology and Smart Life Centre demonstrations
  • Assist our Community Engagement Manager with planning a fundraising event
  • Provide front desk back-up including answering phone and inquiries and greeting people at the door

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem definition and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications as well as virtual platforms like Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
  • Proven time management, planning, coordinating and organization skills; proactive in initiating multiple projects on an ongoing basis and able to work to concurrent and/or conflicting deadlines.
  • Professional attitude, results-oriented, and flexible.
  • Demonstrates mature and sensitive nature when dealing with the needs of persons experiencing vision loss.
  • Adept at thinking strategically to aid in realizing solutions for challenges specific to each individual.

Experience and Education

  • Experience in developing and implementing programs and events.
  • Customer service
  • Experience working with/as a volunteer(s)
  • Personal or professional experience relating to sight loss is considered an asset
  • Willingness to work flexible hours (including evenings).
  • Willingness to work from different locations.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
